Geezus. It is what it is and I will go see it if they are playing relatively close to me. First show soundcheck and Phil sounds great because it is tuned down. For fucks sake. Relax and rock out.
He’s definitely one of the greats ti me as wellDime the greatest, in my opinion. Literally no one can play like him, as far as I am concerned. If this doesn’t show how unique every player is, I don’t know what will. Dime was IT. To me. The most original heavy guitarist of all time, and no one is even fucking close.
i had to avoid, avoid avoid marketing, videos, print ad, etc etc to stomach hellyeah. and fhe lyrics too,Why does that video artwork look like its advertising the worst fucking local band you've ever heard in your life.
It’ll never be the same which is fine, but it could be a lot closer if the guitar didn’t sound like trash.
Speaking of Ola, he should be playing in this band rather than Zakk...Maybe its the tone of the guitar but Zakk does not pull it off well. Maybe he's using his own rig instead of Dimes. He did mention that would be a possibility on his interview with Ola. But yeah, it's also missing some of Dime's swing too.
Zakk is not the right guy for that, then.I like Zakk (esp early Zakk), but this feels phoned in. Maybe it's just me, but when you're covering one of the 'masters', you go note-for-note. I've paraphrased or even just improvised solos from some bands, especially if it's not a "signature" solo that the audience expects. With Lynch or VH or Rhoads or guys from that tier though, I'd play them like the originals, no matter how much time I had to spend in the woodshed. If you're a guitarist of Zakk's level and you're covering Dime's parts in a band that's calling itself Pantera, you play it like Dime. Zakk should be treating it like a tribute band player would. Just my two cents. Doesn't mean I won't go, but I had higher expectations, even such as it is.
It feels like both guitar and drums are missing some of the groove, as I think others have pointed out too. I saw Queensryche on their latest tour, and they were good, but the drums didn't have the right groove either. Just like how Adler's shit sounded off when played by Sorum.
surely with this big of a production they could swing for the right tunings for the appropriate eras of songs....
i can almost hear phil saying "no one should give a shit" - but i kinda do
Fair pointThe tunings are wrong on purpose to fit the vocal range. This happens pretty frequently, but it's probably a little more drastic in this case.
