PANTERA soundcheck!

Geezus. It is what it is and I will go see it if they are playing relatively close to me. First show soundcheck and Phil sounds great because it is tuned down. For fucks sake. Relax and rock out.

Dime the greatest, in my opinion. Literally no one can play like him, as far as I am concerned. If this doesn’t show how unique every player is, I don’t know what will. Dime was IT. To me. The most original heavy guitarist of all time, and no one is even fucking close.
He’s definitely one of the greats ti me as well

Just happy I saw the original line up several times. I appreciate the sentiment behind this but it doesn’t sound remotely the same and I sure as fuck wouldn’t pay to see it.

This would be a lot more promising musically if the situation was reversed. Meaning, if Phil/Rex had passed and the Abbott brothers did this with a new vocalist and bassist, there'd be way more credibility to it as they were the heart and soul of Pantera. Both individually as players and in the symbiotic musical relationship they forged. Sammy/Mike, talented as they are, are NOT VH. Eddie/Alex with two others are VH, period. Same thing applies here. This would work well in an alternate reality with Kyle Thomas on vocals and, I don't know, say Robert Trujillo on bass.

Why does that video artwork look like its advertising the worst fucking local band you've ever heard in your life.
i had to avoid, avoid avoid marketing, videos, print ad, etc etc to stomach hellyeah. and fhe lyrics too,
the music is pretty cool though, but the whole. we are small hat wearing texan toughguys cliche is so trashy and low rent i cant take it seriously.

i have to admit im down on the idea, but..... i wont lie, watching that video, with the wrong tuning and all, really jazzed me up.

possibly moreso bc i didnt think they were even close to doing full volume practices yet... let alone that type of soundcheck

It’ll never be the same which is fine, but it could be a lot closer if the guitar didn’t sound like trash.

surely with this big of a production they could swing for the right tunings for the appropriate eras of songs....

i can almost hear phil saying "no one should give a shit" - but i kinda do

This one is rough for me, I'm a fan, a BIG fan of Dime and the boys, BUT I'm also a fan of Zakk, and Charlie (Anthrax, S.O.D.) I guess I appreciate the effort, if this HAS to be done, not really a fan of this, honestly would rather they dug through the thousands of video tapes at Dimes house and release some REAL material we've never seen. BUT since this is actually a thing, I'm not gonna rag on it too hard, Phil does actually sound really good for a change, which is nice to see. Zakk just doesn't have it for this, love HIS playing, but he's not even close to Dimes caliber, and I honestly expected better from Charlie. It's solid I guess, but it's not, nor will it ever be the Abbott brothers good.

so....many....cell phones

I hate to be that guy because i've been a cheerleader of this whole thing since i heard about it, buuuuuut i just don't see the energy that was PANTERA. I know the video is a bit distant, but Zakk seems pretty stiff for lack of better terms.

I like Zakk (esp early Zakk), but this feels phoned in. Maybe it's just me, but when you're covering one of the 'masters', you go note-for-note. I've paraphrased or even just improvised solos from some bands, especially if it's not a "signature" solo that the audience expects. With Lynch or VH or Rhoads or guys from that tier though, I'd play them like the originals, no matter how much time I had to spend in the woodshed. If you're a guitarist of Zakk's level and you're covering Dime's parts in a band that's calling itself Pantera, you play it like Dime. Zakk should be treating it like a tribute band player would. Just my two cents. Doesn't mean I won't go, but I had higher expectations, even such as it is.

It feels like both guitar and drums are missing some of the groove, as I think others have pointed out too. I saw Queensryche on their latest tour, and they were good, but the drums didn't have the right groove either. Just like how Adler's shit sounded off when played by Sorum.

im sure these guys have been woodshedding for weeks together making sure they capture the very essence that was Pantera that would make dime and vinnie proud.. yeah, no. im sure the first time they were in the same room was the day before tour run through of the set.

Zakk is always going to sound like Zakk. He didn't sound like Randy, Jake or Iommi either. I don't think Dime would sound like Zakk if he played with Ozzy or BLS. Honestly, I don't think Dime would have wanted him to try and be a clone of himself doing this.

Zakk is not the right guy for that, then.
I honestly dig what's Zakk's doing.
