As you all know, the Shuguang factory has been down for some time, and it doesn't look they'll be back up in the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

I know many of us like Shuggie AX7's in many spots of our high-gainers. But I wonder now that they're gone, what else is out there?

I've always liked them mixed with New Sensor Mullards or Svetlanas in V1, and Sovtek LPS's in the PI, but I also really like what they do in V1, TBH. It's just that it's been hard for me to find ones that are actually quiet and not microphonic enough for that stage.

So... what will you guys be switching to?

I usually buy them old stock. They are easy to spot due to the square getter and tripple mica. Testing them on my tube tester they show between 90 to 110% of its supposed emission, even if used. Strong tubes in general.

On one of the more recent ToneTalk episodes Dave mentioned that the Shuguang folks will finally be back up and running soon.

I tried the JJ E83CC's (not ECC83) in my Splawn and Friedman recently and they're cool. Not my favorite tubes of all time, but brighter than the regular JJ ECC83 and they're quiet.

I'd experiment wit some Long Plates in V1 an PI spots for a richer flavor..

PSvane is the new chinese tube. They are pretty good. More expensive than the old chinese though. Modern amps don’t really matter what you run.

I got a PSvane 12AX7. Not bad imo, but prefer the Beijing foil getters ones I got from Nesstone for also less money like you said. In the modern amps I tend to have equally strong tube preferences in them, just different than what I’d prefer in vintage amps. IME the gold pin Genalex CV4004’s, Winged C’s & Beijing foil getters give best results to me in modern metal type amps. Not great in my vintage amps though

I just ran 12ax7b chinese tubes in everything. They were cheap and low noise, decent enough tone. In the vintage stuff, normally a Mullard in v1 then just chinese in the other slots. Never thought they would be hard to come by at some point.

Seen these for a while but not a lot of hype on them. You can get them at Sweetwater.. LOL
I am curious tho..
Amplified Parts has them for a good price.

Fixed.

Just get a sex-change and start playing modelers... neck tats and female hair style encouraged. All the kids are doing it.
Totally bruh. It’s super cool, hip and trendy to look like a middle aged woman now like BTS. And like you said, all the kids are doing it, and I surely don’t want to get left behind when it comes to acting and dressing cool. Currently, I am working on their bizarre speech patterns and contemplating what tats to cover my neck with, and so far I think a giant orangutan and a tribal design with the words, “total devastation,” as well as, “brainwash victim,” (in a Mexican prison style cursive font)‘ in an ironic manner. It’s super important that we all embrace our individuality and show the world what makes each of us so unique.

These look like just straight up Shuguang copies. Are they that?

I love them

For an amp that needs a bit of extra sizzle, I really dig the EH-12AX7. For an amp that leans a bit bright, I love the Gold Lion 12AX7. For an amp that’s a bit noisy, I still like the Mesa SPAX7. And no, the shrink wrap doesn’t make a damned bit of difference. But the fact that Mesa does all the extended microphonics testing for you does. I‘ve never dropped a Mesa SPAX7 in the V1 slot of a noisy amp and though ‘hell, that’s just as bad as what was in there before…’

But the thing about EH's and GL's is they can't candle Cathode Follwers!
