Since apparently only Recorded Tone Matters (RTM), let's talk about some... live recorded tones!

My band had a show last weekend & I brought out my Mark IIC+ Coliseum. Thought I'd share some clips of different Mark Colis & Rectos I've played out with just for some simple comparisons. All clips of the same part of the same song, and of course all gear dialed in based on what I think sounds good (at least at the time). All guitar work is on a few different ESP Hannys. What do you hear from the bleachers with regards to tone & mix?

First the Rectos! Here's an early small logo Rev G Triple into a 2005 Mesa OS slant Recto 4x12 with original V30s.

Next a Rev C Dual Rec into a traditional Mesa 4x12 straight loaded with 1999 UK G12T-75s.

Now the Marks! Here's a Mark III no stripe KDRG Coliseum into a pair of Recto 4x12 V30 cabs- one 2015 Mesa trad straight and the other into an OS straight from 2006 over on stage left.

Here's the Mark IIB (loop mod) Coliseum KRG into a 2001 Mesa traditional recto 4x12.

...And here's the latest, with a Mark IIC+ KRG Coliseum into a Mesa traditional recto 4x12 from 2006.

Who wins!?!?

For a point of reference here's the recorded song which also used the IIC+ and 2006 cab, same pairing as from the gig.

Rev G and MkIIC+ Although they all have their own appeal. Thanks for sharing your work! Lots to go through.

Ouch.

I liked the IIB the best here. Felt like it suited the riffs the most

Hard to pick a head knowing the cabs are all different too. Maybe the C through those t75s were best for me.

Hard to say, I guess i'll pick the IIC+ and the Triple Recto.

I like that song, it's really catchy and you did a good job recording it. You guys sound good doing punk rock.

This thread is an incredible example of exactly why close mic'd tones are so great. :)
That studio tone you got was really cool. It suited the song really well.

But just so I'm not shitposting in here, I think the clip with Mark IIC+ KRG Coliseum into a Mesa traditional recto 4x12 from 2006 sounded best to me. But I'd wager that the reason it sounds so great has almost nothing to do with the actual amp over the other setups, but more because the position of that mic brings out the character of the amp best compared to the other videos.

The Rev C LOVED T75s, GBs and RBs. Especially GBs. Basically it preferred traditional Marshall speakers to V30s.

I've played T75s with all my Rectos and they loved them- especially the Tremoverb. Def an overlooked combo.

FWIW, I've always been anal about mapping my cabs through close mic testing and marking "the sweet spot", so at every single show I did have the mic dead on where it sounded the best.

Also note the Rev C bar gig the cab wasn't micd. (unfortunately for my drummer..)

The studio tone is an E609 plus a SM7B on the cab, then blended in a mixer. The 7B gives it a nice upper-mid grind.

Hard to tell as every recording situation is different, but I think I heard some of the crunch in the mids I like the RevC for.
What year were your g12-t75 from you paired the Recto with? I just scored a quad of g12-t75 white label from `88

They are 1999s.

Amp years, variations, speaker years. One more rabbit hole.

The IIB KRG is the most raw & punishing amp I've ever encountered. If push came to shove it'd probably be the last amp standing.
I have played this exact amp and can attest to its brutality. It is truly a horrifying beast.

Had a 79 loop modded IIB...one of the most incredible amps I've had in my possession. It was the widest, most room filling, 3D, monster tone ever. I owned a 2016 WIzard MTL and 2017 Wizard MCII at the same time as that amp. The IIB did not hit as fast and hard as the Wizards, but it was WAY bigger/more 3D/more room filling. The touch sensitivity was insane too...first amp ever that made me understand what that even meant.
