Tone trust - anyone experimented with one?

I have a Warmoth Strat I'm bored with, thinking of routing it for a bucker just for fun. Have an SD Distortion (or a JB) I planned to install but curious about the Juggernaut, for no reason other than one has popped up for sale locally.

Happy to chat about JB vs Duncan for this application too, will be for fun time 80's rock.

I had one that I bounced around in my LPC, partscaster, and banshee. It was a little ho-hum sounding. Very clear and articulate with a unique chugging characteristic. Sounded viscous at times but overall not something I would want to live with in any amount of extended time. I like more juice in my sound.

Agreed on all. I liked it better than some other BKP models, but BKP’s aren’t the pickups to go with for a juicy type sound. For that Wagner’s do well out of current made stuff, but not on the level still of a good vintage Bill Lawrence or Mighty Mite for juicy saturation

With the exception of the warpigs IMO.

I have Juggernauts in a 7 string E-ii horizon I got a couple months ago.
They are F'ing great, love em

Not a fan, they're pretty dry sounding

Probably works for more modern sounding stuff

I see you’re point there, but the others I mentioned are still imo juicier with imo better tone, feel, and lower DC other than the Iron Man

Maybe I'll just stick with Duncans. No frills, and not cool these days, but they really do just get the job done.

If you’re looking for hotter than PAF but not Duncan Invader hot, try and find an 80’s Dimarzio SD. Probably a 2 wire one. They’re not expensive and I find them so much better than SD’s from the late 90’s on. Not as spikey in the mids as a new one but still a great hard rock sound. Not that DC resistance is an honest measure of output but they typically read around 12-13. I have one in a mid 2K’s V and it’s an awesome different flavor from my 80’s V that has a more PAF inspired Wolfetone Marshallhead.

I’ve always been curious about Wagner. Which set do you recommend?

Literally their models are good IME, but I liked most the Iron Man’s for hotter pickups (they smoke the Warpigs imo) and the Darkbursts were my favorites for lower output, but honestly Wagner’s are obsolete for my needs from these great vintage pickups I have now. For a similar price as the Iron Man you can get a vintage Bill Lawrence 500, L90, L100, Mity Might, or Dirty Finger. As good as the Iron Man is, it’s not in the same league as those ones imho

Maybe hit up Scottosan. Get something really pointed at what you’re going for.

I have a set of Juggs in a Warmoth super strat..swamp ash/pau ferro neck and Wilkinson bridge...love it...low mid focus..tight...not to screamy..just right on the highs and with gain it still retains definition..but yes can be a bit dry...add gain and it feels greasy enough...best of both worlds...ceramic and alnico mags in it. The neck is really nice too.

I had ironman. Loved it. Tried scottosan's alnico 8 (wicked 8?). Will never replace.

My opinion, I don’t think buying the Juggernaut (which I’m sure is pricey even used local) is going to give you anything heads above the SD Distortion. I’d go with the Distortion if I already owned one over buying the juggernaut.

I loved them when I tried them but then they are overpriced, they are options, I really like Dimarzio Titans right now.

Yeah I have to admit it's just out of curiosity - I have a few Duncans lying about that will most likely be just fine.

If you already have a DD then just get a Black Winter for something different.
