Gibson custom neck dive?

Be a man and hold your damn guitar. It’s a 10lb guitar. I’d be more concerned with the shoulder surgery. Lol

I’ve never strapped on a LP that had neck dive. Some SG’s can have some neck dive, but it’s from guitar to guitar, and the right shoulder strap would ease any dive enough that it’s wouldn’t be an issue.

they all have neck dive. I found out the hard way in the early 90's with my old deluxe. I don't think the customs are any worse than the standards....even though they are a little heavier. My old sg was the worst for some reason. anyway-use straplocks!!!

Man that guitar in the OP's link, with the strap pin at the heel, sure looks like it would neck dive.

One of the reasons I'm not a fan of modern weight relieved LPs is that they can neck dive IME. A solid LP won't do that.

Agree, that’s why I’ve always played LPs. Never an issue. Have tried numerous SGs, couldn’t get on with any of them. This seems a decent compromise, but my concern is where the strap button is - just like a SG.

That’s exactly what I noticed. I figured maybe it wasn’t as off-balance as a SG . . . But here we are with me asking the question.

The pair of '98 DC Standards I had in the day were both neck divers. I sold them because of it.

As a proud owner of multiple 10lb LPs, I can confirm the bulk of the 10lbs is from the junk in the trunk.

It ain’t neck divin unless you’re doing something weird or have a workaround for gravity

Damn. That sucks. I REALLY wanted to buy this. But that’s a non-starter for me. Guess I could put weights in the body.

Agree, but this isn’t a LP. It’s a special DC with a worrisome looking strap button.

Solid piece of mahogany though with a maple cap, I think you’ll be ok plus if it sounds good, just have a luthier replace the strap button position

Ordering direct from Gibson?

no, found one used and thinking about picking it up. It doesn't look as wonky as the SG (i always felt like that guitar was ALL neck) . . . but it gave me a little bit of pause.

If its local just ask the seller and tell them you ARE going to check it when you pick it up. I don't mind mild neck dive that only dives with a slick nylon/seatbelt strap but is held up with a suede strap. And when I'm sitting I'm beginning to think I hate body dive more than neck dive. And single-cut LPs can definitely do that.

Assuming it’s not local to you? Definite just ask the seller to do a video for you. Also how much does it weigh?

As an added extra bonus if you’re really worried, call the Gibson Garage in Nashville and they could take a video of a similar double cut in stock and send it to you for sure

Yeah that’s the trouble . . . It would have to be shipped. He says the dive “isn’t really a problem” but won’t tell me there’s NO dive. Lol. He says it weighs somewhere around 7.1, which I’m surprised by - I thought surely heavier. Great idea about the Gibson Garage though!

Yea that’s weird, why not just answer the question, I hate shit like that

Good luck with the garage, I have always found them to be helpful and they tend to have a shit ton of models on the floor
