I heard it was on slbum . And track as soon as track one hits I hear 5150 immediately and the tone was thrash af for him. I got it from a. Interview. He could lied to endorse it but man I just hear 5150 and Steve’s tone changed to uktra modern fast
Someone asked Steve over on Twitter and he said 95% of the Exposed album was a late 60s100 watt plexi , same one he used on Top Gun and Atomic Playboys. Makes sense as I read in an interview he didn’t didn’t start using the 5150s till he toured with VH in ‘93

Well maybe do but track one starts I hear a 5150 . Plus guys lie . Like dimebag . Wizards are on all his first two albums abs he said Randall . I just can’t hear any Marshall sounding like it . But I could wrong of course .

CAE 3+ preamp/rack set up
Wasn't that his Countdown - Youthanasia rig? He used different stuff in the studio than he used live as well. In the studio I know that Dave was fond of tracking his leads with Marshall's, Usually a 2203 JMP, or a modded superlead. On RIP all the leads were tracked with a jcm 800, same with pretty much every previous album,... well parts (including some leads) of Peace Sells were tracked with a Rockman.

First two albums? are you forgetting the glam years? The Wizards are in there on CFH and VDOP, but just a hint of them for flavor basically. CFH sounds 99% Randall to my ears. VDOP sounds about 90% Randall... the character is undeniable if you've ever played through one of those old Randall's.

Dimebag never used Marshall's, except for possibly tracking Planet Caravan with one??

Dude, do you have poor reading comprehension? I know he used Wizards, but they were blended with his Randall tone, and they were blended at a low volume as well. The main tone is Randall.

I had all of his gear as well, rg100es heads PQ3, PQ4, MXR 6 band, gate and I could nail his tone almost to a tee. Especially his Cowboys From Hell and Trendkill tone. The Wizard MTL sounds nothing like Dimebag to be honest, i've heard tons of clips, so they had to use it at a very low volume just for flavor

If you couldn't get his tone with a Randall then you were doing something wrong.

BTW Far Beyond Driven has his best tone too, just saying. But even on that album he blended a little bit of tube amp with his main Randall tone.

Don’t listen to him. He’s also the guy that said boosting 350 hz is key to good guitar tone. Tries to insult everyone but huffs paint every time before posting.

I like that album's production. But music-wise, I much prefer their previous stuff.
I really like some of these really aggressive sounding productions from Studio Fredman in that era. Some of these bands have released remixes/remasterings that try to modernize these albums and they just end up sounding generic. The worst one is the remix/remaster of Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. It is a total reworking and it sounds modern now in the most bland and generic way. The original really went for the throat with its sound, it isn't trying to just be flat and clear sounding, and sometimes I miss when bands used to actually have some balls to go for an actual "sound."

I know you’re right

For me, Fredman's real breakthrough was Slaughter of the Soul.

I cannot believe they remixed PEM. Haven't heard it. But that mix was perfect. P. E. R. F. E. C. T.

PEM REMIXED? i don't even want to hear it.
I listen to that album to this day, and I am blown away that someone fucking mixed that. I mean all the symphony insturments, synths, layers of guitars, bass, vocals, those insane drums, thats alot of bandwidth. Then when that snare busts in on track 2, :uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi:
that snare is so loud and it only gradually backs off if you really listen close. Those tom fills and double bass are just stupid. they're so fast, tight, and triggered. It sounds amazing, but sounds so over the top. It sounds like its triggered and sped up, but i've seen it played live with my own eyes a few times so :dunno:

speaking of dimmu, i really like the re-recording of stormblast.. wish they'd do For All Tid too. i love the originals, but its cool to hear them polished up.

Can't be worse than the In Flames Clayman re-recording though?
I heard it. It wasn't re-recorded. Just remixed. You can still hear the raw ENGL savage vibe from the OG in the remix.

It's just the drums that sound super generic, IMO. And the mix overall wasn's as "dirty" as the original. Which is a shame because even though Dimmu have never been inner circle or any of that shit, they're still Black(ish) Metal. Just kinda polished well-produce more accessible. But the rawer, edgier, dirtier mix (that still sounded well-produced) from before was a lot more fitting, IMO.
