Finally going to get a JCM800 2203x and I'm choosing a cab that would go along with it.

I live in South Korea so my options are rather restricted. Theres the everyday Marshall stuff and some boutique cabs from Friedman and Bogner. No used 412s to be found atm

Now that I'm getting a proper Marshall and have the cash I want something nicer. So its between the 1960BHW w/ G12H30, Friedman 412 with the GB/V30 and the Bogner 412. All around $1400 - 1700

I'm mainly into heavy rock (maybe not super heavy metal) like AIC Mastodon TOOL but also play plenty of lower gain stuff. Currwntly I have a 1960A with V30s and g12ts and I quite like it. As ive said this time I want somethinf nicer, preferrably a darker, bassier straight 412.

Somethinf tells me I cant go wrong with either one of those cabs, however the main concern is how well thw 1960BHW handlws high gain with its 55hz bass cone (should be just fine tbh) and how the Bogner will pair with the 800. I think bogners are darker and have more lower mids than a marshall, dont want no ear fatigue

I defo need a new cab because Im going to sell my 1960a soon.

So.. what do yall think?

I would put some different speakers in my 1960a cab before I spent that kind of money on another cab. Those are an industry standard so it doesn't seem like a good idea to sell it just to get another 4x12.
Im selling my 1960a to fund the 800, its kinda complicated.

If you want darker and bassier, swap out the T’s for a pair of Redbacks, done.
Redbacks are dark with huge, chewy lower mids, and pair amazingly with V30’s.
Also, with the lower mids of the Reds, your V30’s will be more Marshall friendly.

IMHO the H30s do have more low end but they are zingy on the high end, so might not be what you want.

Bogners definitely tend to sound a bit darker. Are you able to try them out? I wouldn't over look the 1960BX or BV either. I've had a ton of 412s and those are my favorites (though I like the slants).

I had a Bogner straight, an EVH, a 1960AX, and a 1960A at the same time. The Bogner and EVH are gone now.

Maybe get Mesa T4416’s and wire them Aiken/Bogner style with 10 gauge and put some foam/jute on the back panel.

Hell do the wiring and padding and you might not want for new speakers.

Also, if you have any Russian glass in the amp, do some tube rolling. My guy’s 5150 II went from screech to glory by running all JJ’s ala EVH. He uses a 1960a I reworked from the switch plate/tiny wires with spades to Aiken/Friedman wiring with 10ga and foam. Getting theEHX pre’s out of V1&2 did the final trick.

Currently have a Bogner Uberkab with V30/Redback mix as well as a Friedman 412 with GB/V30’s. Never been happier with my cab collection and I was blown away with how much I like the Friedman cab.

It seems like the Marshall cabs no longer come with the heritage g12h30s (cant be sure) which was half the reason to get a 1960hw, now its between the bogner and the friedman.

The Bogner standars 412 seems to sound a lot different from the other v30 loaded cabs for whatever reason, i guess i just have to try them all out.

Between the Friedman and Bogner I’d go with the Friedman….in my experience an all v30 cab like the Bogner doesn’t sound as good as the M25/V30 combo in the Friedman; with a Marshall anyway.

Yeah Marshalls with vintage 30 can sometimes be a bit too much ime, Ill try the friedman and see how it goes

Cut some 4X12 cab inventory over the past year. Down to a Marshall 1960BX and an EVH. I run both cabs when using a 2203X.

The 1960 has a touch more top end cut, and the EVH is a bit smoother/warmer. I love them both and they sound great together. If I had to pick one to use with the 2203X, it would the Marshall in a mix and the EVH if playing alone.

I'd go for the Marshall, if it does indeed come with the 55hz g12h30s. One of the best cabs I've heard paired with a Marshall.
Bogner cabs are great. Hard to go wrong there.
Friedman cabs are good, too, but I don't care for the GB/V30 mix. I prefer all V30s or all GBs. I have one of each, a Marshall straight with GBs and a Soldano straight with V30s, and dig em both for different things.
I'd suggest the 1960bx if you can't get the g12h30 55hz cab.

I 've watched reza's demo on the redback and its kinda like a darker creamback? I love it. Any thoights on a 1960B loaded with 4 of these with a 800?

Have considered getting the g12-65 heritage? The g12-65 pair very good with jcm800 amps and the one heritage I have is basically the same speaker (a tad darker).

For the tones you like, your cab is probably pretty dead on. I prefer the 1960BX over the 1960BHW, G12m25>G12h30 most of the time. I find H30's quite bright which works well at high volume when the amp is losing headroom and rolling off top and bottom end.

For AIC/Tool/APC/Mastodon a 1960BV is ideal, but might be similar to what you have already.

My vote would be for a EVH cab .... or a 1960 with the " Eddie " backs in them .... so I guess either way ... get some " Eddie " backs
