Hey now!

Strings are strings to me. I'll use whatever, but prefer d'addario, just the regular kind.

I'm actually impressed with the regular Elixirs I have on my LTD Viper, but still, they're strings, so they sound like strings...

I also like the DR Veritas strings but again I find the extra cost not really worth it with how frequently I end up replacing strings. It’s kind of dumb though as the Veritas sets come with two different kinds of unwound strings - normal ones and these gold colored ones called xenon power plains. Having compared them I definitely prefer using the xenons in those sets so it would be better IMO if DR just went with those and shaved a little off the price. Plus you just end up with a bunch of unwound strings you’re unlikely to use.

I love the NYXLs

Curt Mangan is another brand I like a lot

I bought a package of Ernie Ball Slinky and can't stand them. Felt like they were already used up and dirty.

A friend of mine recommended the NYXLs - he plays 2-3 nights a week and says he loves them because he does not need to change strings between gigs. One set easily lasts 3 nights. He has even gone 2 weeks of shows with near perfect tuning stability.

I really like them. I use non locking trems - both 2-post and 6-screw - and NYXLs hold tune better than any other string I have ever used.

FWIW - 9-42 tuned down 1/2 step.

I really liked them on my strandberg, but only used them because of limited options.
I’ve been a slinky guy forever but only because I don’t mind them and I haven’t made the effort to try out other things

I also like their ads

Hi,

It depends on the guitar, my 8 strings need the NYXL set
Everything is balanced tone wise, also the feel is spot on

My telecaster on the other hand just breaths better with normal el cheapos

Also your personal taste has something to do with it

That's exactly what sold me on them.

I play a lot of gigs with my boomer classic rock cover band, and instead of having to change strings every week, I change them more like every 2-3 weeks.

They stay bright and spanky and hold tune superior to any other brand, at least for me

Heavier core probably makes the strings a little stiffer.
Some strings do have a larger core to wrap ratio but I’m not certain NYXLs do. However, their cores ARE made of a stronger, denser grade of steel, hence the stiffness. To my ear this results in a stronger fundamental note with fewer harmonics. I kind of liked them on certain guitars but not others.

I had the exact opposite, at least with a 60 tuned to A#. It was impossible to get it to sound good there were so many distracting harmonics. I don't have this problem with the XL's or Dunlop Performance+.
