It's theorized by some users that TGP is being inundated with bots, disguised as Google search bots, in an attempted DDOS attack.

The bot inundation part was confirmed by an administrator for the site, but the DDOS theory was a user who's non-staff who works in IT.

Sometime yesterday, one of the admins started tweaking the Cloudfare server in hopes of fixing the problem, and although I haven't seen slowdown since, I've twice now been locked out of being able to post. I can log in, read other posts, even 'like' posts, but I can't post.

I made one post last night after I got a "verifying secure connection" popup. Then logged in today, and can't post again.

That site has gotten so big, and the mod team was cut down to the concrete foundation around 2020. It's a real shame.

There is a house full of cocksuckers there.

Hope they go the way of HC.

There's some real nice folk there too, but you won't find them in the Gear forums for the most part. I fucking hate the Effects forum in particular. It's nothing but a bunch of childish pedants who have probably never played onstage anyhow.
The core group of assholes and management ruin it for normal people.

There are good members and wealth of knowledge, but sadly they follow their religious and political ideologies and ban anyone who dares have different views.

The strange thing is, the mods are generally pretty conservative whereas the users with the highest reaction scores lean more to left-of-centre. Regardless, political topics of any form are strictly forbidden there, and the warning points I've accumulated throughout the years certainly remind me of this.

I'm at odds with their rules at times, in part because if I post literally anything in Effects, I'm inundated with idiotic, rude, and insulting responses from every fucking idiot on the site. But because their rudeness doesn't violate the rules technically, they can do that, but I have no recourse.

Part of my appeal for joining here was that I could blow off steam about that very issue.

Sometimes I feel like I'm walking into a room full of pre-teens, with those ever-stupid expressions of smugness. Fucking idiots.

I blame Scott Peterson
I think this is ultimately the fault of the site's owners, not staff. I don't necessarily like the admins' decision making style over there, but since the layoffs during the lockdown, that site has tumbled in usability. This past summer has been pique bad scene.

Scott was the only one I bumped heads with over there. If anything, the other mods were the reason I stayed as long as I did.

I don’t really know many details at all about the new owners/buy out but I can definitely say I missed Brian running things

I don't even remember the name of the site's owners but it didn't take long to piece together that after their buyout and the subsequent lockdown the mod team were gutted by over 50% in one year. I think they're down to far less than that at this point. I've only ever seen posts by 2 admins over the past year, and both share the same first name.

NGL I really miss Purple Jesus. He didn't give a shit about anything but showing respect to builders, and I thought that was awesome. The Gear forum basically died after he went.

Which is strange because I didn’t think being a mod was really a paying gig over there. Not sure why the need to eliminate positions

I don't think it pays well but I do think it's technically (?) a job, albeit part-time. I can't imagine it's worth whatever the compensation would be if it is, though. Seems like the core mod team are at this point doing it out of a passion to keep the site going.

If it is volunteer, then that's really bad. Losing volunteers that they can't replace in such large numbers would, to me, imply far worse is going on than if they were paid staff.

But perhaps it's possible that increased nastiness from banned users during the lockdown led to a buncha nutters harassing the ever loving shit out of them. Were this the case, I'd quit too.
