Look I know you’re pretty sceptical of the Covid pandemic and mental health. Possibly that’s a reflection of your upbringing and values.
Live and let live. I’m trying to be far less combative on here than I was say a year or two ago. Too much negative energy.
Most employers these days make their minds up on a prospective applicant via 3 or 4 stages of the process. By the time someone comes in for the interview they’ve either already got the position, or won’t get that one but will be contacted shortly for one similar. Covid has decimated our economy and workforce and countries need employees, bad.
Most Gen Z’s I know (I’m a high school teacher remember) are painfully fucking aware of their shortcomings and lack of confidence and a lot, not all, are scared shitless of the future. You can add a landwar in Europe, China’s imminent takeover of Taiwan and these crazy weather events to that list I mentioned earlier. Most kids can’t even afford to get drunk these days, it’s all cheap pills made by some asshole in his garage.
Bottom line is that I can count on one hand the number of dyed in the wool asshole kids I’ve had in any of my classes over the last 20 years of teaching. And of those, you just have to look at their fucking circus of a home life to figure out why. You give kids some encouragement, positivity and boundaries, man you’ll start seeing the world in a whole new way. All they want is to feel like they belong and that they’re needed. Responsibility is a big part of that.
Today’s kids are awesome.
