I think I got a capacitor value wrong from the layout I got off SLOCLONE forum.. but I like how it sounds, so I'm not changing it now.

Building just a preamp is easy. Almost as easy as building an effects pedal.

I run my preamps thru a passive loop in my home-made JCM-800, then into my home-made reactive load/line out.

Been using speaker IR's I load up in my DAW (Reaper) for about 9 months now, exclusively.
