Real cab or IR? Tech death riff

Dude EVERYONE can tell, OBVIOUSLY all the golden ears are gonna tell you why it’s one or the other and how they can always tell….

Actually, what’s going to happen is, this thread will die, and sink to the bottom, because those that think they can tell never put their money where their mouth is.

The next time someone says this dumb shit, I’m gonna make a clip of a super high gain amp, and one of a super clean amp, each with completely different setups/IR’s mics etc. because if these people can tell “which is which”, it shouldn’t matter how vastly different the tones being compared are, right? Same thing with the anti digital crowd. Completely 100 percent polar opposite tones and have them tell me which is which: real amp or digital.

Yup.

“It just sounds… digital, you know? Like it just has this digital quality to it, which is a word that definitely has a specific meaning.”

“Of course I’ll explain exactly how I know the digital side is digital just as soon as you tell me which side it is.”

Yeah, the reality is it’s so close these days with digital models, captures, IRs. I can’t tell when anyone posts. I honestly think it’s cool all this gear and tones are in reach for anyone now.

Unpopular opinion: it's harder to recreate blonde/tweed/and blackface fender clean and mid gain tones more than high gain tones

I often think tight playing and stereo tracks translates to “yep, it’s digital.” lol

Not saying this is my tightest playing here by any means and there’s no edits or anything just thought I was getting some good sounds.

I definitely agree to an extent, but I think the feel is what’s harder to pull off more than anything. But, sometimes getting the high end natural sounding on high gain stuff can be difficult too, or atleast it definitely was back in the day.

My bluetooth adapter died the other day so no quality speakers. You know I love you brother but you never revealed in your thread whether you were using IR's or speakers. I questioned you about it in another thread, so this is the third time I'm asking. Were those IR's or real speakers? Tell me my golden cub ears are made from tin, I can handle it. If not, then I won't ask you again and will assume my ears are as golden as the crown the dentist installed in my premolar yesterday.

Hey homie, I may bump it again before I reveal it, because just as I thought, very very few people stepped up to the plate and gave an opinion.

People hate being wrong. I was watching a video where someone was switching between nanocortex and capture back and forth because it has an alternate every 4 seconds button, yep, couldn’t tell at all.

Yeah I noticed that. Nobody wants to be wrong. I figured it was worth winging a guess for the heck of it. It sounded like IR's to me. I'd be guessing here in Brams threads cause it's a fun game but all I got right now are fully trashed built in chromebook speakers. Everything sounds like crap through them.

No idea. However, the clip does inform me that you have beautiful teeth. Nice job.

left channel sounds easier on the ears than right. so either both with mic on left, ir / digital on right or a custom ir. mostly because the fthwicks don't sound as clear and the widdly's at ~30 sec seem a little harsh.

if it is mic'd it sounds like there is some sort of degradation (like when I screwed up my bounce settings) or its not in a position I would prefer. the fatigue I get from mixing w/ irs is why I lean that way but it could be possible to get that with a mic as well I suppose, I just haven't done it yet.

that's my guess
