I've been messing with a rat pedal lately, and it's awesome. I used to think they were shit, but I'm all about it now.

Thick.

And it covers so much, it cleans up nice and you team it up with a boost and you basically have a setup that can hang with anything, multiple genres.... Doesn't do the marshally highs but man it's so good. Anyone have any idea what recordings they were used on? Post clips dudes!

No idea about recording but I sure live a RAT and RAT variant. I’ve got some killer ones.

I have a Griffin Analog Rat variant, which is like a Rat with multiple rat types selectable. Love that thing!!! I used to not be a huge RAT fan but they do something other drives don't - and I like that thing.

RAT pedals are really great but yeah I don’t hear them talked about much either.

If you want examples, Nuno pretty much doesn’t play without one turned on as a mostly clean boost.

i had a Keeley Modded 3 wayfat rat probably like 20 years ago, that fat mode was awesome, should have never got rid of it

I have been wanting to try a Rat pedal for a while now. Never played one. Maybe a cheap Amazon Rat type pedal will do the trick. I'll start looking.

I had a Rat for a short period of time. Sold it and then read how Nuno uses it. Need to try one again.

Have a FATRAT here.

ImO the best way to use it is with an OD before it to goose it and add a bit more hair and air. Love to boost it with SD1W or OD808 ^_^

Dude. Mooer Black Secret is a great, low cost one with Standard and Turbo options switchable.

Can't use it with active Pickups. EMG 81s are clipping the input stage unfortunately.

I bought my first RAT in 1983

I think all of Kill'em All is Rat and a Marshall.

I have a pretty cool rat clone from Freakshow Amplification. Here's part of the description:
"I added a few clipping options, position #1 is Asym clipping (smoothest and most compressed), position #2 is no diodes mode, this is very loud and crunchy...great for DOOM!, position #3 is LED diode clipping mode....this is a less compressed AND FIZZIER version of mode #1."

Def love sending my bass through it as @Spaceboy mentioned; it sounds great.

When I think of Rat tones I think of Kill 'Em All, Nuno's work and also Trey Azagthoth from Morbid Angel, which are all Rat into Marshall amp tones.
