Mark C++ Preorder

Okay, so I read on another forum that the ++ tone is basically the same as the mid-gain switch on the Mark IV. The harmonics setting is the C+ standard. That's it?

Yep. It's mostly a 6 db mid boost in the pre-EQ section that gives the amp just a bit more gain and hair around the note. It's pretty subtle. But Hetfield had it done to his amp and everybody wants to be like Hetfield so you NEED it.

It's nothing you couldn't approximate to like 99% with an EQ pedal or something, and the EQ pedal would give you a higher degree of control around exactly how you want to shape those frequencies.

Basically, it's just a way for Gibson to charge a few extra bucks for an extra super special badge on the front so people who buy it can feel extra super special about their extra super special limited edition amp.

I don't like this move by Gibson because now, everyone who bought the C+ for $3,500+ is going to feel a little cheated. Mesa is not going to update the C+ to the ++. Is it a first world problem? Yes. But I feel bad for those would bought the C+.

I'd second this statement.

I have an OG C+/++ and if push came to shove and I could have only one, bye-bye ++! I could not live without +, although ++ is nice, I use it maybe 10% of the time, YMMV.

I previously owned an SRG C+ (sixty, reverb, graphic EQ) that I foolishly traded for a DRG++ and regretted it. The C+ and C++ act, feel and sound different to the point it's easy to tell the differences between them. The ++ is way smoother/compressed in all aspects whereas the C+ is brute-force, gut-punching, grab you by the throat mean. The ++ seems like a ride in the park comparably.

Harley Davidson vs. BMW.

I could ++ with a compressor pedal. I can +++ or ++++ also with a gain pedal. You can't just dial it back and + with a ++, at least with an OG ++. Too smooth.

You'll see the R.I. C++'s passed around like a hot potato once people compare them side by side with the R.I. + if they're similar to the OG.

I have to keep reminding myself that I didn’t want a mark III when they were $600-800. And fight that human trait of now that something expensive you think you might want it or need it. 😂
I flipped Batten's rack Blue Stripe MkIII used on tour with MJ, for $600ish.
Didn't like it then. Won't like any of these now.

I got mine in the $600 era, and they were a solid value back then. Over the past 15 years, I’ve gotten so used to having it around that I can’t bring myself to part with it, even at the stupid prices they go for now. I’ve also convinced myself that relative to the IIC+, it’s close enough for rock & roll.

If I’m being completely honest, the Mark V is probably just as good all around, with a better layout.
