yes, manly men who like manly men. :emofag:

better music? that's opinion; no basis in fact. The fact is KISS outsold Priest.

Works for me.

Kiss outsells JP. Truth.

Swift outsells Priest too. So?

The end justifies the means. It's called winning. It's called success.

Success financially? Sure.

Artistically? No.

And pretending they are the same thing is what makes it a super boomer take lol

WHAT?! HALL AND OATS SOLD SO MANY RECORDS YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT KIND OF SUCCESS

We can't argue with their record sales, no, but only idiots buy records because everyone else is buying them :hys:

or like the music. not taking anything away from Halford's singing, but it gets tiresome after a few songs, like Brian Johnson of AC/DC.

as far as metal goes, Priest is pretty basic music. I listen to KISS much more than Priest, because I enjoy it, no need to follow a crowd. First Taylor Swift, now Hall & Oates, when we're discussing Priest and Kiss. Who's next, Boy George? Is s/he Halford's type?

hell bent-over for leather?

Bros
If not for a steamy night in '79 and a broken Kiss Kondom I would have never been conceived 🙏

Because when people argue album sales as a metric for artistic merit, theyre conflating non-overlapping magisteria - and those artists are always the ones people bring up.

If you like Kiss? Great. If you want to argue that they sold lots of records? Also great.

But when you argue Kiss or any other artist has musical or artistic merit solely based on their album sales, you're conflating things that have very little to do with eachother.
LOOK HERE BUD YOU EVER HEARD TEARS IN HEAVEN SHIDDD WULD YOU KNOW MY NAME IF I SAW YOU IN HEAVEN

IF IT WASN'T FOR JAMMY HANDRUCKS YOU WOULDN'T HAVE YOUR SCREAMING MUISIC

I have a friend that argues the point that popularity equals talent. I am ok with the argument, because it is easy to quantify and is very black and white. There really is no better way that I have found that extends from person to person.

That said, I completely disagree that it is valid.

As I said I prefer KISS to Priest. I think KISS music is better too. That's my opinion.

Added bonus that they sold more music than Priest (fact). Which also means more people who buy music find their music better than Priest (fact). So not conflating, it's one fact serving as a premise to support another fact; and together they form a conclusion. Very similar to your statements about Hall & Oates, Taylor Swift, etc. which is conflating since the argument is Priest vs KISS.

I think that the argument for album sales either must be clung to or trashed is the point. I choose to trash it, but respect those that cling to it. But flip flopping to suit your needs isnt logical

No, the argument isn't Priest vs Kiss, it's arguing that album sales equals artistic merit - it doesn't because artistic merit is completely subjective. That's why it's non-overlapping magisteria, and you're conflating.

That said, it's also black and white that Kiss

1. Doesn't write a bunch of their music.
2. Doesn't play their instruments on a bunch of their music.

Which means if you think Kiss music is awesome, you're arguing that you think Desmond Child and a bunch of session players have "artistic merit", because Kiss literally didn't make most of their "art" LOL

There are many measures for comparing music. One such metric is sales, which can be equated to popularity.

There are some great, skilled, innovative musicians, even some way ahead of the times, but they're relatively unknown, maybe playing in their room or to small crowds. Allan Holdsworth, one of my favorite guitarists, never compromised his music which negatively impacted his popularity/sales; so he was successful on his own terms.

I'll still take listening to KISS over Priest, every time.
