I've literally never met anyone who stopped liking/listening to priest because he was light in the loafers - my parents (in the 90s when he came out) were like "yeah no shit everyone assumed it, look at their clothes"
I didn't stop liking Priest until I heard Kill 'em All, and moved on. I already moved on before Halford came out publicly. Same for most of that second / new wave of heavy metal bands like Maiden, Venom, Priest; I was listening to Rainbow, Ozzy, Motorhead,...until Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth. Never really went back to late '70s metal because it all sounded dated to me, even more than older Sabbath, Purple, Heep.

Do you understand how influence works in metal?

Slayer, Metallica, and Death literally wouldn't exist without priest

Don't believe me? :ROFLMAO:

yes, and they all made Priest sound dated, and left them and Maiden in the dust IMO. Not questioning their influence, but they were quickly surpassed by the thrash and death bands IMO

edit: ...and faster than grunge killed hair metal

You realize that cover is famous for being super faithful to the original, right?

who knew so many were so sensitive about Priest. You'd think I dissed EVH for this kind of response.

...and through Halford.

faithful, but better. Death is one of my fav metal bands.

And yet, chuck and co apparently have a completely different perspective on them than you do

It seems youre rationalizing not even giving priest the credit that one of your favorite bands gives them

Schuldiner was a big Kiss fan...

I mean...that kind of argues your side that they are valid.

I always thought everyone knew they were a joke. When i found out people thought they were a valid band I was shocked

nah, I said they were made dated by the thrash and death bands, not that they weren't influential. I also said I like KISS more than Priest.

Chuck was a KISS fan; IIRC, KISS is what made him start playing guitar.

I found this:

Chuck Schuldiner, the founder and guitarist of Death, cited a wide range of musical influences, including progressive metal bands like Watchtower and Queensrÿche, as well as heavy metal and thrash bands such as Kiss, Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, and Raven. He also expressed an interest in Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, and other guitarists. Schuldiner's mother stated that he enjoyed all forms of music except country and rap, according to an interview on the Empty Words website.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of his influences:

  • Progressive Metal:
Schuldiner was particularly drawn to the technical and complex music of Watchtower and Queensrÿche, which influenced his own writing style, especially in later Death albums.
  • Heavy Metal and Thrash:
He drew inspiration from the riffing and songwriting of bands like Kiss, Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, and Raven, shaping his early Death style.
  • Guitarists:
He admired the technical prowess of Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, and other guitarists, which influenced his playing and songwriting.
  • Other influences:
Schuldiner also acknowledged the impact of NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) bands, early black/death metal bands, and prog bands like Rush, especially on later albums.
  • Personal Preference:
Schuldiner's mother noted that he enjoyed a wide range of music genres, with the exception of country and rap, according to the Empty Words website.

This checks out. Country and rap are pretty abysmal

hard to argue about subjective things like music taste. Apparently if Dan disagrees with your music tastes, you have bad taste or don't have any taste.

I do know Dan hates KISS and Polyphia...

I hate both also, but dan hates a lot of my music also. Though, he is a very talented grunge singer and can pump out some good death metal

I never liked grunge; when the hair metal / thrash gigs dried up, I went into prog metal then death metal.
