How's it been? Select as many options as you would like.

  • It's substantially slowed since the covid peak

  • My gear sits for sale

  • No one is buying

  • I own/work in a related business and it's slumped

  • I am an investor and have done actual research. The market is dying.

  • Check out those classifieds, things that would have been gone in an hour now sit for months

  • It's amazing, YOY growth with no end in site

  • It's so good that I'm moving my money from gold to Gibsons

  • Why is this even being asked? It's dying.

  • If I had $50m I would invest it in valve tube manufacturing knowing I would never profit

Tell that to the guys at SweetWater

Perhaps they can chime in since they aren't publicly traded and let us know where their revenue comes from. I'm guessing from your posts that you're either new to the guitar world (relatively) or you're just overly hopeful. What percentage of music on the Billboard Charts for the last couple of decades is guitar based would you say?

You can guess...... and they probably won't tell you but a lot of help coming from running a Corporation in 3rd World Country like conditions within a 3rd World in America in either case much like Amazon and other Corporations and par for the course amongst such types I imagine ^_^

I think I've reached a dead end in my gear buying journey. I have a couple of things I'd like to sell, but nobody wants them.
I'm pretty much going to have to sell to GC or Music Go Round.

Or even worse TGP and lose out on 10,000$ and a kidney on some stupid ass next level The Woke Page scam........

Am I right :dunno:

I started buying a bit more gear than usual just before covid, then saw the mania that lasted until mid way through 2024, once all the stimulus was gone and interest rates hit their peak the market started to slow considerably.

The other problem is we can only go off what we see publicly, and a lot of sales shifted to private sellers once reverb upped their fees. There are still certain niches of gear that sells for big bucks, but its amongst a handful of cashed-up collectors and never hits the 'open market'.

Are you in market research now?

Should have been an option for:

People are still asking delusional prices, so gear isn’t being sold.

Yes, the used marked price did go up the same percentage like the retail prices or at least that's what people want them to sell for. if you sell them for the old prices you will not have trouble selling...

I want to open a valve tube manufacturing facility and am gauging interest on how many people would be comfortable paying $250-300 per individual preamp tube. If I can get at least 80% of musicians on board, I should be able to break even in just under two hundred years.

Listed my Nightswan yesterday on most marketplaces, including here and Reverb. Listed it on eBay this morning. Sold on eBay this afternoon. Wasn't exactly priced to sell per se, but it was priced fairly.

I'm not apt to ship anything worth over $1K. I know lots of people sell stuff all the time, but I can't afford to get scammed.

I'm done trying to sell stuff these days. I rather sit on it or give it away. I'll only order from reputable shops that have a healthy return policy, friends I know personally, or people that have been vouched for by someone I know personally.

That's about the only reasonable argument I've heard for growth, tbh. Though any future where we're all singing kumbaya and basking in our hobbies is going to require some pretty heavy communist and socialist regulations. Feel like I would be happier as a battery at that point :ROFLMAO:

UBI will be inevitable as AI has already started displacing a ton of tech jobs. Ironic that the ones building the platforms are the first ones affected by it. AGI will be game over for many industries. $600bn marketing/ad industry is currently being upended as well.

it's scary. I work in a very niche tech sector, with student transportation. It's already scary what it can do. I'm an analyst, and I use it all the time to write code for me... Proprietary code, where I tell it what's different. Once the queries don't even have to be human, my job is gone. :(

Not to sound dark or go off topic, but I feel that most people are overly optimistic that they and their descendants get to be part of the new world. Generations of the 99% have built the future for the 1%.

I don't even know what to tell my teenagers that are entering the job market. The trades will be gone at some point, and advisors are already telling kids IT is a dead end. What is left, law enforcement and politicians? Even law enforcement is going to go away. Medicine is already being replaced. What is left, law school? Arguing about people that have an argument?

UBI is a way to prevent massive civil unrest. I know there's been talk about underground bunkers but what's the point of all of this if you have to hide anyway? They'll also need people to help support the infrastructure. What if tech illiterates and AI join forces against plutocrats and live in symbiosis lol.

It's a tangent obviously but it'll be interesting to see how humanity changes over the next 10-20 years

IT admin / physical installation will likely still be around. Plumbers, electricians, roofers should still be here. I can't imagine a cyborg coming to replace pavers in my driveway lol. Visions of the future aren't exactly exciting

dude, it's easy for me to see it, being in IT. Robotics are quite advanced, and we haven't even hit quantum full tilt with AI. I can easily see a machine doing the job of trades at some point. Up until the actual advent of a feasible AI, everyone thought the trades would be the first to go. Turns out the brains are easier to make than the physics involved in movement. I unfortunately see admin and managers as the only jobs in those fields, as AI takes over everything else. We have a support dept, that could easily today, be taken over by the AI. They are problems that occur frequently, that there is already a database of solutions for. It's only the client at this point that feels comfortable talking to an actual person. They will soon be able to fool people there as well though.
