How's it been? Select as many options as you would like.

  • It's substantially slowed since the covid peak

  • My gear sits for sale

  • No one is buying

  • I own/work in a related business and it's slumped

  • I am an investor and have done actual research. The market is dying.

  • Check out those classifieds, things that would have been gone in an hour now sit for months

  • It's amazing, YOY growth with no end in site

  • It's so good that I'm moving my money from gold to Gibsons

  • Why is this even being asked? It's dying.

  • If I had $50m I would invest it in valve tube manufacturing knowing I would never profit

Apparently all of these companies are mistakenly not investing in the booming guitar market or tens of millions into tube manufacturing.
It's crazy, why wouldn't they spend all of that money for no return? Let's ask our resident experts.

The guitar market or the economy? They are kinda tied together. I would love to buy more gear. Gas and groceries cost too much and my paycheck is stagnant. It's a loss in disposable income that hurts the market for gear, not a loss in demand.

Both, imo. Most of the covid era boom was like any other era of the guitar. 90%+ of people gave up and moved onto other hobbies. It was artificial and probably not going to come back. What existing players want isn't going to change, I am personally referring to growth. My guess is that it will all but die within the next few generations followed by some sort of boom of nostalgia by future hipsters/those seeking thing made from wood. 🤷‍♀️

I always buy stuff at a price I’m willing to sell the item for. Or, I buy cheap shit. I find good deals on stuff so that if I ever want to sell, I can price items to sell.

The only thing I’ve had “trouble” selling over the past year or so was a 3k guitar. But I don’t think that’s because of the economy per se. I think that was more of a big-ticket-purchase that requires thought and planning. It was also a unique guitar (Millimetric MGS3) so it has less potential buyers than your Gibsons and Fenders. By “trouble,” I mean that it sat for a month or so before selling. I’m not sure if I really expected a faster sale though.

I don’t really have trouble selling pedals when I list em.

Unfortunately that 10% of COVID zoomers that stayed are annoying as fuck.

I have no gear to sell, and little money to buy anything else...so I'd say everything is just groovy.

I haven't noticed any major changes other than tariffs and some inflation increases.

Some gear is more expensive due to tariffs...e.g., Korg Kronos 3 went from $3,499 to $3,999 after the reciprocal tariffs on Japan; haven't checked to see if Japan made a deal yet; it's unclear if they make a tariff deal the prices will go down...they're still not in stock, so I'll wait and see.

Some EBMM guitars prices increased around $100.

Lisa, does #5, investor research, represent you? :D

Either way, this really does make the most sense.

I think we saw something similar with the "Slash Craze" some time back. I mean, I hope it doesn't dry up. If a kid wants to go buy a cheap Epi and Crate because he or she is inspired then I'm all for it. Reminds me of that kid Tassha or whatever her name is - except she has nice guitars.

Life is a pendulum sometimes......

You know and it may not be swinging your way this year....... and another way the next.....

If the industry is experiencing any downturn it's in line with other industries..... relative to any downturn other industries may be experiencing at the moment.....

And relative to norms today..... the industry really isn't receding and when accounting for these factors and considerations the industry is probably stronger than ever IMO and healthier than ever before given these factors and considerations relative to times and eras past.

I should have worded this all differently. Was mainly referring to it growing as a hobby/career in the future. I've done a bit of research and most looks grim in the near future, at least. Most of Marshall's sales for a few years have come from lifestyle products and bluetooth speakers. When I say most I mean the vast majority. Lot's of gear pre orders getting cancelled all over, limited batches not selling out, guitar models being dropped, used gear availability is probably higher than it ever has been. So much more than this, tbh.

This is a hobby and a career path that is dying, sorry.

don't worry, once AI takes all the jobs, they'll have to find some way to keep us pleebs happy. The guitar market should pickup when people only have hobbies. :p

That's about the only reasonable argument I've heard for growth, tbh. Though any future where we're all singing kumbaya and basking in our hobbies is going to require some pretty heavy communist and socialist regulations. Feel like I would be happier as a battery at that point :ROFLMAO:
