Mary Ford was kind of a shredder ahead of her time like Les...... she was as good as him too or better....... easily could be a Top 10 Guitarist of all Time.

Hats off to a real legend 100+ years later..... here is to you missus Ford ^_^

And well here is to the father of modern music not just in America but the world round...... he ain't on my top 5 for no reason........

Les Paul was so ahead of his time and we can thank him for modern music in general and a lot of the "old music" as well......... for years to come alot of music we have come to appreciate since his time and after will we always be indebted to his efforts........

What he did wasn't just extraordinary from a pure players perspective or a musicians perspective in general but we truly are standing on the shoulders of giants today from his simple advancement of tracks, delays and other effects we take for granted now such as reverb...........to what we have today with FL Sudio/Ableton/VSTs in general and however advanced technology is today.......

Les really set the foundation even to this day and even to this day IMO his advancements in technology and music lead the way and are the foundation of modern music yesterday, today and for years to come.

What's wrong with Neil Young ...... he's like Crosby Stills and Nash all in one but better :dunno:
After the Gold Rush and Needle and the Damage Done are ok. Old man is ok. Nothing about his playing puts him in the top 100 guitar players though much less the top ten.

Well, not to put too fine a point on it

But his guitar playing would be the main thing that's wrong in a list of top 10 guitarists of all time
I don't know I think Neil brings something to the table that puts him up there with the greats........ it's not just the technique but it's the vibe and meaning the player brings to the music/playing for me.......

And Neil just brings it on all fronts from that perspective IMO.....

John Fogerty is the same in that aspect and easily a Top 10 from that perspective.

Yeah that guitar playing is awful. I literally could do better, and so could 100 people who post here.

I get it if you like his songs, but it wasn't a "top 10 songwriters of all time" post

Right on.......

Well then do it.....

And well yeah...... Idk maybe it's harder than you, me or some schmuck thinks it or makes it out to be to play something and make music that impacts a decade/generation or decades/generations........

For example one could say Tim Henson is a much better player guitar player than anyone on my Top 10 but I doubt Henson would even label himself as a Top 20 or 100.

It's not just about the technique and impact on music as much as any player may have and be on anyones Top 10 for any reason it's the meaning and "voice" behind the guitar and well not so much the voice but the soul.

Aside from impact each player had on music/guitar iMO on my Top 10 had on Guitar and music in general it was also their soul and their meaning in what they did.

For example George Harrison could easily be a Top 10 in history as well as Neil Young based on that ImO.

Yeah I mean, then it's "songs that i like" more than "top 10 guitarists"

It's the same confusion when people say their "favorite tone" and it's not really the tone they are into but the playing/player

Non-overlapping magisteria

Didn't see anyone mention T-Bone Walker and Charlie Christian, who both took lessons from the same guy, and both basically formed the core of all blues and jazz solos, and by extension, rock solos. Even metal dudes use licks T-Bone pioneered and Chuck Berry stole.

Well on average maybe what you consider to be the best doesn't line up with everyone elses opinion or mine.....

Or maybe the same with me but as much as with anyone on my Top 10 or anyone else mentioned I would say Neil Young could easily be on anyones Top 10 of all time Guitarist.

Not everyone can put on the brass ring at the end of the day.........

And I would easily put them on my Top 10 as I would Tim Henson or Steve Vai for example :dunno:

That's cool but Tim Henson would make a better muppet than a guitarist and Vai's crowning achievement is playing the losing guitarist in crossroads. Those guys have such noodle arms they aren't fit to carry T-Bone's guitar case.
