The Pac club! Played there a few times also...worse yet though, was Charlies on the West side of Duluth. That place made the Pacific Club look like the Taj Mahal. Normans up in Virginia Mn....ahh good times.
I hated the Pac club but they were one of the few venues that would book us as 2/3'rds of the band was under 21. Sebastian Bach played there and was bitching about club attendance lol. Late 90's no one gave a shit about that 80's stuff anymore. Superior at the time was a town full of drunks and degenerates for the most part, lol. Never got to experience Charlies but the west end has always been kind of a dump too since I was a kid. Ditto Gary/New Duluth. There were a couple other clubs I played in that Duluth-Superior area but I just can't recall all the names anymore, it's been too long.

When we were 'on the road' we would meet people and sometimes they'd take us out fishing, water skiing, or make a huge spread of food etc....the first gig at Charlies in Duluth we met a couple, and the dude was a sound guy/part owner of 'Slam Ex' sound co. He had run sound for Metallica the year or two before, and secretly recorded them through the board. I tried to get a cassette copy of that boot but to no avail. Kirk was killing it except for one tune where he sounded like he was in the wrong key lol....but within a few measures got back to the right spot :ROFLMAO: ...

Fists flying, lol, yep.....I initially asked velcro-fly if he had gigged up in that area before because, well, there can be a lot of assholes in some of those towns and I didn't want him going in unawares. Bemidji is the only place I have actually had someone toss a bottle at me on stage, lol. That is one of the worst shithole cities I have ever experienced in all my days yet Park Rapids and Walker which are nearby are great areas.
Hahah appreciate the looking out for me! No problems at all where we’re headed ;-)

I will say that I got one of the absolute worst sunburns of my life up there haha....we stayed at one of those cabins right on the lake just North of Duluth, I got kind of hammered and passed out on the rocks and woke up scorched....we had an absolute blast though, gorgeous location. Fast forward many years later (two summers ago) now with kids, we wanted to take them up there after this same annual event we’re playing at because we remembered how cool it was, right? Fuuuuck.....teenagers weren’t having any part of it, we figured it must’ve been the alcohol memories, and to top it of Bettys Pies fucking moved hahah. Out of there! We cancelled our hotel, cashed in a bunch of air miles, drove straight back to Minneapolis and flew to New Orleans for three days. That was an epic trip and a full rock star move for a non rock star hahah. What’s that Black Crowes line? Sometimes a memory sees only what it wants to see?

Man, the Slam Ex dude is someone I think I met up there at the time but dang my memory is pretty foggy going that far back but I sort of recall him being active in the nightlife in terms of being a regular face. Damn, jogging muh brain. I was going to school for auto body at LSC during that time and lived in piedmont heights, then moved to 10th into a big house with some PR dudes just up and east from the central hillside, and then onto 1st up superior street from downtown by the gitchigummi club. That was a cool spot. Used to watch the sailboats. My bro lived with me there and we were rehearsing over the blatnik bridge in superior.

Sounds like two harbors. Me and my old lady honeymooned up there around palisade head and gooseberry falls. There were some great spots at the time that you could just pull off and walk the creek down to the lake. Grandma's marathon and the bayrfront blues fest were epic in the late 90's there.

Two Harbors was exactly where we were at! Epic spot right on the water on the rocks
