Do you ever just think "I've got too much stuff?" I can't really think of the last time I gassed for anything except for the Friedman Jose, but even then, I think the gas for that is kind of fading since it's taking so long for it to actually become available. I've got "stuff" that I can confidently say hasn't been used in at least a year and I'm thinking why do I keep all this around if I'm not using it. I just have a hard time parting with it, and there are some things I would never part with. First World problems I know, but it just seems a waste for it to sit and not get used.

that said, I've often sold gear I liked and wasn't currently using, only to end up buying it again.

what's stopping me now is lack of space. There's room for one more keyboard and there's one keyboard I want. After that I'm going to try to hold myself to selling something before I buy something;

...due to lack of space, and once I retire I won't have the extra money...but I'll also have more time to play and use my gear, and over time decide what I really want to keep vs what I'm willing to sell

Yep. I'm not a collector nor do I hardly play anymore so having multiple amps and guitars just sitting around is like this "weight" on me. Very weird feeling as my whole life as a guitarist was about accumulating more or at least what I had convinced myself I needed. So I've narrowed it down to some things I'm keeping whether they sit or not or things that are going. So whenever I get the chance I'm jettisoning a couple Les Pauls, one of my Chubtones, an EVH amp and probably a mess of pedals. Laziness is the only thing that's keep me from doing it so far.

Obviously some people are just the opposite, more is always better.

Same here.. I sold my late 90's XTC with the MM iron in it and was lucky enough to find another one, that will be staying with me no matter what.

Laziness is the only thing that's keep me from doing it so far.

Again, same thing here. The thought of shipping amps, etc. is just not appealing and probably the #1 contributing factor to why I don't sell stuff.

I have too much.. my wife says my home studio looks like a museum. BUT my 10 guitars do get rotational play..amps less though. Pedals? Probably mostly just decoration at this point.

And I'm not ashamed to say that I'm most certainly NOT a musician. Even when I did play all the time, it was always a hobby and not a life. At one time, could I play just about anything I wanted to? Sure, as long as I had the song and the tab or what I could pick up by ear. Probably would have been great in a cover band, but I know real musicians and I don't qualify. I never had that mindset or drive to consider myself as a musician.

Nahhhhhh.......Lack of gas is a good thing..... You have just tried everything that has interested you and now you know what you like and what you don't like and are content with what you have because your gear gives you what you want.

Like everyone here I've been through quite a few different amps, flipped some, kept some, built some and the few that I still have make me very happy when I play them as to what I want to hear and feel from them. The same goes for guitars with me, I've had a few Les Pauls, a couple of V's, Explorer and a regular strat through the years, if I had to try to convince myself I liked a guitar then it was time to move it down the road...all long gone. My old Kramer's and selfbuilt superstrats are just what makes me happy and I have no more gas for most other guitars, that doesn't mean all those other guitars aren't great guitars, they just didn't do it for me for a myriad of reasons.

Every once in a while something interests me or I want to try something out but it is becoming more rare these days same as yourself.

Nothing wrong with that at all! It's just a sacrifice - you're never gonna have all the nice gear if you're a musician (unless you're in the 1% of the 1%) but as a hobbyist you can have it all.

I can totally understand seeing that as a worthy sacrifice for other people, it just would have driven me insane

if you got paid to play music for a live audience who paid to see you play (excluding friends and family) and/or you sold your recorded music to people (excluding friends and family) you are a professional musician.

I've done both, probably 100s of gigs from age 14 to 32 in 20+ bands; 2-3 bands that actually sold tapes of our recorded music (as well as shirts, hoodies, stickers, etc.)

not all musicians are virtuosos; not all musicians do music-only for a living.

for me early on, music was a passion, then a hobby, but I still got paid to play, and people bought our recorded music. Good enough for me...now I just play and make music for my own enjoyment; and thanks to my day job I can afford most music gear that I'd ever want (though an Allen TO-5X would be stretch to buy, because I'd need a bigger house or a at least a steel reinforced floor!)

Me and you were talking about that a few weeks ago. Crap that needed to go. I moved a bunch of pickups and pedals that had been collecting dust. 3 electrics, one acoustic, three amps, one of which is broken that I plan on fixing soon, and three pedals is all the gear I have left. I eliminated that stupid box of parts...well, mostly.

I just quit selling amps because it was a pain in the ass to ship them...and that's how gear piles up. Now I'm just keeping my powder dry for something special if it shows up.
