People have been overpricing their TH pickups for years now.
They, along with JM Rolph pickups, are my favorite PAF replicas ever since I've first heard them, around 1999.
Since production is 100% hand made in the US, and by a single person, is very limited. So, people wait in line for years, and when they get their pickups, they flip them immediately for profit.
I've visited Tom's place when picking up the set that I've ordered, and was absurdly impressed with his shop, history and knowledge. Not to mention Tom was a true gentleman, who is extremely proud of his product, and very disappointed with the way people take away true users place in line, just to flip the pickups for a quick buck.
Tom is still making them, and for less than half of that Ebay sellers price.
Again, as far as PAF pickups go, I still could not find anything else that comes close to a great sounding original PAF set as a JM Rolph or a Tom Holmes set.
A true gem.

The immediate flipping for profit of hard to get items is a serious dick move. It seems like over half of the people who buy these things aren't even guitarists who want to enjoy them anymore.

What's the wait time like if you order right from Holmes?

It's capitalism along with supply and demand. Maybe if Tom Holmes produced more and at a faster rate, the price would go down?

its not something id do myself, but i cant really call it a dick move if there are willing participants that are happy to pay extra to skip a years long list, its not like we are talking essential life items people need to live or anything.

I have a nice set of Peter Florance Voodo 59 pickups sitting in a box. His pickups were second to none back in the day. Looks like they sell for a lot these days.

I agree 100%. I would never pay that much but if someone else wants to, have at it. Happens all the time like with the digitech bad monkey pedal, etc. A year and a half wait for a pickup is just ridiculous.

I thought he stopped making pickups? Definitely want to try some someday.

My 450 is normally the lower output neck pickup in the 450/455 set, but it was all he had available at the time and throwing it in the bridge position of my tyler ended up being a really happy tone accident for me.

it’s one of the main reasons i was totally cool owing and playing that one tyler, my only electric guitar, for a decade. the clarity is unmatched and flexible enough to cover any style.

When you say "tyler" I'm guessing you mean the one and only JAMES TYLER GUITAR.

DiMarzio, Duncan, EMG work fine for me.

Many pros have used them for many years, even some guitarists that are somewhat liked and respected here.

I like and use many of them too. D-Sonic, Super Distortion and Evolution are some of my all time fave. So are JB, Whole Lotta Humbucker, Alnico 2 Pro Humbucker, classic 81-85 set... but none of the three brands mentioned above can replicate a PAF like JM Rolph or Tom Holmes. That's fact.
