hot rod tele

used to have a G&L asat tele that sounded amazing with my live rig, but the neck was not playing nicely in the upper frets so buh bye.
been missing the tele tones, and have a potential duo gig forming which a nice cheap tele would perfectly serve.

my strategy:

(played it and it felt and sounded great)

https://www.fralinpickups.com/product/split-steel-poled-tele/
(fralin single coil cleans sound best to my ears and i already have a fralin lipstick neck pu ready to go)

anybody try that kingtone tone pot/switch yet?

i previously installed the fender TBX tone pot on my tyler and loved it.

Indonesia.

Buy a used American or at least a Mexican. Just my opinion.
i can respect that sentiment fully.
thing is i want a cheapie as it might be outdoors, sketchy locations, so something i wouldn’t be sad about if it got rained on or stolen basically🤣

on the flipside, i’ve always wanted a butterscotch fender tele after babysitting a US 52 reissue for a friend for a year.

$600 isn’t really a cheapie is it ? In 2017 I paid $700 for a gently used 2015 American Special.

I’d take a Mexican Squire Classic Vibe over an Indonesian Fender.

Look for something used. You’ll get better value for your money.

you’re swaying me😁
but what makes mexi better than indo?
i recently had a mexi squire strat and this indo tele kinda cleans its clock quality wise.

Fralin tele pickups are fantastic.

I’ve got overwound blues specials in mine & they absolutely rock. I’d be curious to hear what that split pole sounds like.

Fralin pickups are rad in teles

I'm with Floyd though, I would go with a fender or mexican fender

Unless you want more value for 600$, in which case you find a great parts caster build used or something

TBH I would probably piece one together around that budget. Search parts in the TGP classified or just buy someone's mjt or GFS build. Generally speaking I've had way better luck with that

I have had many parts caster teles and I feel like it's worth it to spec them to your preference until you get to fender USA or higher level Mexican teles

Ever think about putting in a push push pot in your strat, for Neck pickup meshing with bridge? Its killer! Gets you some of the way there, without having to tolerate the egrecious Tele neck ( all IMO of course, hehe)

i really appreciate the feedback gents. i’ve poked around and tried a few other mexis and some high dollar US ones. the brent mason is cool, a few others were interesting…

-but-

my friend is the manager of the shop and he agreed the indo is a player. both times i demoed it straight into a princeton and the first time a guy started singing along to what i was playing (Sara Smile) and instantly wanted me to be in his band.🤣

today a lady was looking for a first time gtr for her 14 yr old daughter and as the sales guy was pitching a ssh strat to them, mom walked over mid sentence and asked me what i’d buy😁.

point being it must sound pretty good to others too.
buddy knocked a bunch off the price and well the rest is history. 🥳

if i live to regret it i’ll know you guys told me so but i just got done playing for 3 hours on the mark III clean channel and it’s a blast✌️

also i lost my mind and had to give in to the digital devil. forgive me tube brothers🙏

my tyler is coming back fully loaded-series split parallel switches , mid boost, all n/m/b on switch, blower

but the tele makes me play more like an acoustic . my right hand is grabbing more hybrid pick/claw and just more chordal in approach.

really appreciate the looking out my braddah. for me teles have to feel and play comfortably in my hands and to me that is mandatory try before buy. i’ve played some $$$lemons$$$ in my day!
