I don't think Tomorrow is the best representation of the band either. Israel's Son was great and I don't think I could have written a song like Pure Massacre when I was their age that's for sure. On their sophomore release he was using Soldanos through 1960 412s and had an absolute roaring live tone.

was Silverchair and their shitty JCM900 4100 dual reverbs. ive read interviews where he said they cranked them to kingdom come, and i believe it as that amount of searing gain with that compressed honk is only something achievable with volume.

Always thought it was Soldano decatone.. not sure about that first album tho

Silverchair's debut was a JCM900, and a Soldano Hot Rod for most subsequent projects. This is first hand from Daniel - I engineered the band's fourth album and some of his later solo work.

Here's a pic of us circa 2014:

Great pic!
I think I recall reading the guitars were Gibbo LP's, but they belonged to the producer/engineer? I don't think they owned any 'big dollar' gear back on the first album as they were just kids in a little Newy band.

That’s awesome mate. Good to get the clarification straight from the horse’s mouth. Great pic

I always assumed he was playing prs and using rectifiers like everyone else back then….

My favourite guitar tones from the 90s were on Garbage Version 2.0 album. Pretty much any song on the album had really nice guitar tone and still do. Excellent production from Butch Vig!
