New Friedman Jose Vid

Wasn't the BE loosely based on a Jose with added shaping options and a more modern low end anyway?
Don't remember why but that's always been my impression

Yeah id say that is an accurate description. I can definitely hear a difference but don't know what difference I'm hearing. The BE sounds amazing but I go "there is the Friedman sound". With the Jose, it has some tone or component in the chain making it sound like something bigger. Ive heard that sound in Cameron modded Marshalls in person and clips of mods.

To the extent that it is an extra gain stage in front of a Marshall-ish circuit with optional clipping diodes. So similar topology but a lot of circuit differences.

The Jose really does sound like the Vai amp that Pete Thorn did the video on a while ago.

The Jose sounds like it has some grind in the top end that missing in the BE

No for sure, I just wrote all that 'cause it seemed better than making a flat statement without any justification as to why I thought it. Plus I actually wanted to double-check myself what the effect would be.

I would need to play the Jose in person to judge it. I'm curious about how the Jose feels under the fingers. Is it chewy like the BE? It does have slightly more sizzle than the standard BE, although a modified BE could also have lots of sizzle. The Jose also seemed to sound more balanced on big chords with the notes ringing out.

Unless Dave said otherwise. Yesterdays Tone-Talk he said the list is about 1700...
 
He did, but he also added that there's duplicates, people who can't afford it, people who changed their mind, etc. He mentioned about 50% of the people who actually paid, so roughly 800 or so on the list is what he expects.

He also said they haven't shipped 100 amps yet so either way it'll be a while if you're not already on the list

Yeah, you'll probably be waiting a year if you just get on the list right now. Is it worth it paying over right now to avoid the wait? Only you can answer that. Interesting that he mentioned Richard Fortus is now using the Jose live.

Yep people need to make up their own minds. I'm not waiting, I got on the list when it was announced and have one here

The Fortus thing surprised me as the "standard" 3-in-1 Jose is brighter than the Jose he was using (I have an SLP here Dave did with that Fortus/Mars circuit). They both sound really cool, just different.
