My favorite Socialist program in the US is its military. Oh, and fire departments, police departments, and the roads we drive on.

Great examples of what Socialist programs can do for a country.

Americas military is not a result of Socialism…….

Its a result of a Federal system and Federal government……

Fire Departments and Police Departments are not Socialist either, neither are roads. They are public services brought thanks to the revenue of a Free Capitalist Market and a Free Society/Democracy.

I know what you're getting at. They're paid for by the taxpayer that benefits everyone. But this is is the goofiest take I've ever heard on these programs.

By that logic the entire premise of a government is socialist.

At any rate there’s a difference between social programs and a socialist state.

I wonder why none of the people talking up socialism ever come from socialist countries.

It’s paid for by the collective people of the US to benefit every citizen of the country. It’s a Socialist program.

The word “socialism” isn’t as scary as you think it is.

That said, I don’t consider myself a socialist, just in case you’re wondering. I’m a capitalist who thinks heavy regulation and support from socialist programs are the best way to do things.

Exactly

They’re not socialist programs.

What you are referring to is democratic socialism and the people who coined that phrase clearly don’t know what socialism is. It should be called something else.

It’s not a “Socialist” program and to call it as such is a perversion of Democracy/Capitalism and what this country stands for.

Democracy/Capitalism are the best way to do things……. Just ask people living in Communist China or North Korea :dunno:

For the record, my opposition to what you call single payer healthcare for example doesn’t have anything to do with socialism. We could have that discussion too but…..

Pretty sure each town is different, each town pays for and maintains its own roads. Same for fire/police/rescue.

Exactly. That's why social democracies (the Scandinavian countries, much of Europe, Canada, NZ, Aus) have a mixed economy and much higher levels of happiness than the pure capitalist USA.

Explain how it doesn’t fit the definition of a Socialst program.

You seem particularly bothered by this. Let me ask you… is “Socialism” in the room with us right now?

Also, what kind of Capitalism do you think is the best way to do things? Please don’t tell me you’re in favor of pure distilled 100% laissez-faire Capitalism.

Socialism/Communism is a form of government…….. maybe in China or North Korea or in the former Soviet Union or Cuba now this is the case but in a America it is a Free Market Society driven by Capitalism/Democracy…….

This is the system in which the country produces, grows and collects revenue for public services in America/The United States ^_^

Even AI knows the difference between a social program and socialism.

You think the US is pure capitalism ? What kind of education did you say you have ? You should definitely get your money back.

Of course “social programs” and “a founded-from-the-ground-up Socialist” government are different. One is a government, the other is a program. But socialist programs are rooted in the same pillars of philosophy as Socialist governments. They share the same principles, ideals and intent.
