Now that I pissed off a bunch of people about Ozzy, let's do Iron Maiden.

Conventional wisdom ranks Number of the Beast or Powerslave as their best album. That's bullshit. Number of the Beast is a good album, but it's really three or four stellar tracks and the rest is kinda filler. Same with Powerslave. Which album is really number one ? The one where every song kicks fucking ass. Where Steve Harris really loosens up and lays down perfect bass tracks on all 9 songs. Where he loses his songwriting monopoly because Adrian and Bruce and Dave all step up and write killer tracks. Obviously it's Piece of Mind. Just a fucking great album from start to finish. A handful of songs on Number of the Beast are of the same caliber as the songs on that album. Also the best personnel line up.

Fun fact I just learned. Iron Maiden had 3 singers with the first name Paul.

Priest > Iron Maiden
Mmm. Maybe. I'd have to think about that. They definitely lose big time in the bass department, but I would say they have more albums that are solid bangers. Though I could do without a lot of their 80s dreck like Livin' After Midnight. Fuckin' Painkiller is heavy as shit though isn't it ? I was listening to it yesterday while weed eating.

I first really got into Priest with Jugulator. Of course I had heard their early hits like Breakin The Law, You've Got Another Thing Coming, etc....but Jugulator was the first album I bought, THEN I got Painkiller. Those boys can write some riffs. Maiden has some slick riffs too, but I think Priest barely edges them out.

I'm older school. Defenders of the Faith and Screaming For Vengeance. I like Rocka Rolla too and Sad Wings of Destiny.

Agreed with both posts. Piece Of Mind FTW and Priest>Maiden. Killers is a nut hair behind though
Oddly if you look at various rankings of Maiden albums, Killers does very poorly. Like 15/17 in some cases. And the highest I've seen Piece of Mind ranked was 3rd... Lotsa people smokin' crack I think.

I personally don’t care for Painkiller. Give me Stained Class all day. Maybe Killing Machine/Hell Bent after that. And Vengeance is a masterpiece as well.
I have to admit I have never listened to the album Painkiller. I should though. I just heard the song for the first time and thought, god damn, Halford fucked around and got him some killer guitarist and started fuckin' it up. Mother fucker is old as shit and still bringin' it too.

Every song on NOB is killer, and there's really no arguing. Sorry.

Piece of Mind IS also killer, and almost the whole thing is as good as NOB but in comes Quest for Fire...and To Tame a Land. Stupid.

Powerslave has Aces High, 2 Minutes, and Rime which might be my fav all time Maiden tune. But the rest...nah.

Somewhere in Time has the Title track, Wasted Years, Sea of Madness, and Stranger....great tunes but again, nah to the rest.

So, to sum up...Number of the Beast is killer front to back. POM comes in 2nd...then the rest. And no, I don't listen to the DiAnno stuff.

Priest is also an equal killer influence on me....I can go with either band and be happy.
:)

Check out the YouTube videos from the Epitath tour. Glenn Tipton was still playing live, but you could tell he was having a lot of difficulty, especially on The Sentinel, but he soldiered on and the sound on those videos is KILLER, and of course Richie was absolutely slaying it.

There's some stupid shit on NOB bro. There is definitely room for arguing. I agree about the DiAnno stuff. Not much of a fan.

The Sentinel is one of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar. Fuck, I bet I was 11 or 12. And when I say learned, I don't mean like, learned the right way or anything. The Hellion and Electric Eye, Bloodstone. Fucking bad ass.

I actually agree with FloydEye.

Piece of mind is my favorite overall.

Priest and Maiden have different vibes going. I can't decide which is better, but I do feel closer to the vibe of Maiden. It has a rootsy, punky vibe whereas JP is more polished, sophisticated IMO.
