Now that I pissed off a bunch of people about Ozzy, let's do Iron Maiden.

It's a matter of taste. Killers is more punkish, so if that floats your boat as it does me, you're gonna prefer Killers. If you're a prog-metalhead you'll put something else over Killers.

Every song on NOB is killer, and there's really no arguing. Sorry.

Piece of Mind IS also killer, and almost the whole thing is as good as NOB but in comes Quest for Fire...and To Tame a Land. Stupid.

Powerslave has Aces High, 2 Minutes, and Rime which might be my fav all time Maiden tune. But the rest...nah.

Somewhere in Time has the Title track, Wasted Years, Sea of Madness, and Stranger....great tunes but again, nah to the rest.

So, to sum up...Number of the Beast is killer front to back. POM comes in 2nd...then the rest. And no, I don't listen to the DiAnno stuff.

Priest is also an equal killer influence on me....I can go with either band and be happy.
:)

I could not have written anything better than this............So I won't................:2thumbsup:

I don’t see how 22 Acacia Ave compares at all favorably to anything off POM besides maybe Quest For Fire and To Tame A Land.
NOTB absolutely has filler.

And Killers above POM ? No way.
Piece of Mind just didn't have the raw, in your face, dark writing as NOTB did for me. POM was more polished IMHO as I 'm sure there was more budget available and more production. I just enjoy NOTB more.

For me NOTB is like VH1 one take capturing lightning in a bottle kinda thing where everything just clicked in to place at the right time with Bruce stepping in as it was a departure from the Dianno stuff which was ok but not my favorite tunes.

That's because Killers had the raw. Everything else after that was like obsessing over a fancier and fancier brush for combing chest hairs. People on forums tend to hyperfocus on chops sometimes but the listener listens for the sound. Killers had the sound. Everything thereafter sounds more and more produced. Not as many people connect with a tattooed millionaire.

Nah. The songs on Killers simply aren’t as good as the songs on the next two albums. Especially POM. Better songs, better lyrics, better vocals, more interesting and melodic basslines, the guitars were more precise. Killers sounds like a garage band that has a good bass player and a good guitar player.

The songs on Killers, the themes and lyrics, laid the groundwork for everything that came after. I like both bands, but Killers had songs+a raw feel and I'm def biased towards a more stripped down approach. Everything thereafter became progressively more and more produced. Half the songs on PoM aren't even as exciting as the live after death versions. Why? Because it's more raw than the slightly prissy sound that started with PoM. And even more noticeably so on the Powerslave record. Live after Death is the high water mark of the Dickinson era. I'm prepared to back that statement up with liner notes from the album...

Also not sure how you can overlook Clive Burr's drumming in your "garage band" remarks. Killers is the purest british metal that ever existed, period. That's all there is too it bro. If you keep this up you're gonna need to turn in your man card, lol. But seriously I enjoy this discussion because I've been trying to listen to stuff lately less for the instrumental/songs aspect and more for production values, mixing, mastering, etc so it's good to hear all these great opinions.

Bah! Humbug! Here's the only band that matters...

The Schmenge Brothers! (John Candy & Eugene Levy)
