Bands you got into way too late

Mastodon, Opeth, the Deftones, Iced Earth and many others. Got lost in the family life for many years and was happy to see that these bands kept interesting music alive and well. Love that they're continuing to evolve and put out new material.

I first started collecting music in about 75.
Lots of them but I'm thinking of Porcupine Tree, and I'll extend that to most of the great 70s prog too.....Discovered the Dream Theatre prog album Metropolis PT 2 scenes from a memory way too late also.....Came to appreciate the whole catalog more after that

Eventually the devil appeared before you when you first picked up a guitar and said, try these tones. Which, tabbed out, was 000-666-000-666 just over and over again.

Tbh, started playing the guitar about 10 years before El Diablo entered the chat :ROFLMAO: Still have my first guitar. WTB: Garbage Pail Kids, My Little Pony, and Mr. Yuck stickers, late 80s Christmas Barbie heads, as well as the early 90s troll doll with purple or blue hair and punk rock outfit for middle/high school era restoration project. Also, have heavily used .71 semi knockoff delrin pick(s) for trade.

For me it was Tool . I was into Pantera and dinging out about Dying Fetus . I love Tool now .
i got into tool with 10000 days, so also very late!
but actually like 10000 days since it's my first tool album, which long time fans seem to mostly see as a disappointment. So i think i got into them at the right time:D

same for metallica with their dad rock phase (when i discovered them)

Ashamed to admit, but I dismissed early Black Sabbath. I only listened to Dio era until the last couple of years. Lots of great tunes on those early Black Sabbath albums...

I tried very hard to like Black Sabbath, but I only like a handful of their songs. A lot of their albums have a guitar tone that just doesn't excite me. Hate to say it, because I am a big solo Ozzy fan.

Ratt this year because of Sykes' death and the algo.

Got into Big Wreck in '97 and saw them '98 and '01 just for balancing this thread.

Tool with Lateralus in 2005. It came when I needed it. Meshuggah then too, thanks to Adam's GW article.

QOTSA in 2012. Heard some Era Vulgaris and dismissed them prior. Now they're one of my faves.

I was a fan of tool from the Undertow. Actually saw them at Newport down on the OSU campus when I lived in Columbus. Pretty small venue for them nowadays.

For me it'd be bands that were defunct before I got into them...

Death (but now we have Gruesome...which I discovered recently)
The Faceless (but now we have The Zenith Passage)
Necrophagist
Spawn of Possession (but now there's Retromorphosis...which I just discovered today. lol)
Bolt Thrower
