I've always loved Paul from GW's demo vids. He's one of the best demo guys out there. This amp sounds good but definitely not worth the price. I could get all those sounds with a pedal in front of the stock amp... EXCEPT the tight switch. That sounds really good to me.. what is the Tight Switch mod?

Sounds better than the Plexi Modified, but still ain't worth the price of entry.

$3500 for a Vietnam transformer amp that 45 yrs too late, nah.

It's pretty well documented that these Marshall Mod series amps sound terrible. Seeing these YouTube gear influencer types rave about how great they sound and then plugging in smells like (overused term) outright gaslighting. Quick reminder guys...We have ears.

I'm just asking what the tight switch does.. that sounded good to me.

I will defend my statements that the mod sounds very good. Marshall did it right here. Straight in, it's all I would need. But I will also say that for me in CAD, these amps are 5K+. I will never drop that kind of money on a simple circuit when I got my Bugera 1960 with the built in RR Cascade mod for 500$. I just can't justify it. For half the money you can get the circuit with tweaks from places like Ceriatone.

Tight switch is probably just switching in a different capacitor value that dumps more bass from the initial gain stages.
The bottom line is, even though I am guessing on the exact method, it’s really just losing bass in the preamp so it’s less tubby.
You could somewhat achieve the same result, using an EQ pedal in front where you shelve off a little of the low end

Nobody knows exactly what the tight switch does at this point. But it could be any number of things, as already mentioned. Switching out a cathode bypass cap, or switching some sort of voltage divider, or high-pass filter, or whatever. Either way, I'm pretty sure it's super simple and easy to implement. You'll just have to wait for someone to buy one and then post photos.

Haven't played one in person, but the clips are not inspiring.
I'm in Canada as well, and there is no way I would consider one of these Marshall's over, for example, a Ground Zero Helion, a Headfist Alta, a Friedman JEL etc. that are all in the same price bracket for us Canucks.
And I also think that the Ceriatone stuff is great value, will be half the price, and sound as good as the new Marshall's.

And yeah, and the tight switch is probably switching the first coupling cap from the stock jcm800 value of .022uf to .0022uf to cut some bass going into the cold clipper.

Paul is cumming on himself real hard pandering for Marshall.

His demo of the modified 1959 sounds really good too. I’m actually interested in these amps after hearing him play through them and I had mentally written them off
The metal demos are not good . Does not mean rock sounds are not . I think you will sound good with them with your style

The tight switch contracts the player's sphincter muscles upon activation, should said player ever need reminding of, "I paid THAT much for THIS???"

I did like what I was hearing in the demo as well. Nothing polished about it, just raw Marshall tone.
