This is a quick copy/paste as to what I was trying to say earlier today. We've lost sight of why the District of Columbia was set up to begin with. To federalize to protect if needed.

Getting homeless off the street and cracking down on crime is something you'd think we all agree on.

No solutions provided, no competent candidates, just pure hatred and temper tantrums.

I remember political commercials from years ago.
The candidates would talk about all the positive changes they wanted to make, and how it would help the voters.
At some point, those ads became "my opponent is the biggest piece of shit ever, and here's why"
Shit slinging.
It wasn't always a thing like it is now.

Yes, the term is "negative campaigning" and has rose in popularity in about the last 30 years, especially local and state elections. An ad spot consists of downgrading the opposition and in some ads, the name of the sponsor isn’t even revealed...that's 100% negative.

Housing the homeless and reducing crime is something most of us can agree on. Turning DC and other major cities into quasi police states is not the solution for that. It's un-American and it will not work.

BTW: DC is the capital of the US. Capitol is the term used for the legislative building within the city. No snark.

DC never defunded its police force, not once. Policing is not the problem and more police is not the solution.

The solution to crime and poverty is to stop allocating a trillion dollars a year to our military in peacetime, quit giving corporations and billionaires massive tax breaks and to properly fund things like public education, affordable housing, health care and infrastructure all across America. IMO, that's the stuff our taxes should be used for. Not just in blue cities but red states, too.

I keep wondering to myself what are the democrats going to do in 3.5 years when Trump is no longer in office and can't run again. They've built their entire political identity over the last decade on orange man bad with zero actual policies. So far that hasn't worked out well, yet they keep running with it.

Maybe not defunded, but STL didn't defund them either. They just didn't hire any new ones, put most of the white ones on a " No trust" list and refused to investigate or prosecute any of their arrests. Literally a video showing a guy getting out of a car, walking up to another car and shooting the driver in the head was made public and Kim Gardner never prosecuted the case, citing lack of evidence. Blue cities all over the country do things like that and no cash bail, "Gun court", etc. An 18 year old black kid gets caught using a gun in a robbery and spends a night in jail, that's it. And when asked about the crime problem the politicians who made that happen blame lax gun laws. :ROFLMAO:

I agree we waste trillions of dollars a year on dumb shit, but you are cherry picking the shit YOU think is a waste. Billions of dollars in foreign aid and foreign DEI programs, but I don't see any of that in your hit list up there ? Just the usual leftists fare, Defense spending and bills to steal less money than you would like from rich people. Public education has been "Properly funded" for years and on average kids are exponentially more stupid now than they were when the NEA was created. Quit sending our tax money to Ukraine or Israel or anywhere outside of the country and use that money to improve the lives of Americans who are willing to work for it. Giving that money to the people you guys claim to be advocating for has done nothing except perpetuate the welfare state. These blue cities like St. Louis haven't elected a republican in 60 years and routinely pander to minorities. Those minorities are more impoverished than ever. That's not the solution.
