New to me Sykes arrived!
I have a Gothic Les Paul, but always had an eye on getting a custom LP.
Nowadays, those prices are so out of control that will likely never happen for me, so I found this and decided to give it a spin. I am totally honeymooning right now, it is awesome!

Always wanted one of these...Mind telling us what you paid?

I’ve had Edwards/Sykes for almost 2 years.
I switched out the Duncan SH-6 in the bridge for the Pariah Sykonaut, and changed the nut and saddles to Graphteq parts, to solve the tuning issues. I’m quite pleased with the guitar.
I can’t imagine a Gibson Les Paul being any better.

Is that an Ampeg VL? I loved those amps!

I think this one has stock Duncans in it and I really like it- my other guitars are kind of hyped up with Fishman/BK/EMG so this gives me more of a vintage flavor while still being aggressive. I think the tuning has been solid on this one but I'm going to remember this post if I ever feel like upgrades. I looked into a brass nut- did Sykes use that? I had a brass nut on an Yngwie strat that was killer, but so far I'm happy as is

I have been looking at one of those myself. Either the Edwards or an Epiphone Custom with the correct Gibson headstock shape. Gibson Customs are priced way too high. I can afford it, but the older I get the less I am willing to part with that much cash.

I didn't care for the tone of the one I had. Not sure if there was an issue, or what, but it sounded muffled and had no clarity. It was like the tone knob was turned down halfway. They're nice though.

In fact, I had an Edwards LPC E-LP-130CD that was the same.

I had a Marshall once that sounded like it had a blanket over the speakers no matter how I set the EQ. One day I just said screw it and took the blanket off the speakers and man, talk about an improvement.

Glad you’re enjoying it, I’m the one that sold it to you on reverb! That was a really good one!
Hey

I'm curious about how you had it set up. I wanted to play some drop C# Ozzy so I put on stringjoy

I really like that ^ but thinking I may want to go a touch lighter, but if I go back to standard E. I liked the string gauges that you had on there- were they 10-46?

Also curious about the pickups I think the Duncan Distortion is in the bridge ( I dig it), but you were trying something else- what else did you try?

In case you are interested, Sykes had nothing to do with the Edwards (or any other non-Gibson model guitars). They asked him, he declined and they went ahead and made them anyway. They never had their hands on his guitar to determine the specs. John didn't mind them using the chrome parts--but he wasn't crazy about them calling it a JS model.

I had 10-46 on there.

The bridge was for sure the distortion and I believe the neck is the distortion neck model, but I never pulled it to check.

I had a MCP Afwayu installed. Which is kind of in JBish territory.

As for the brass nut, I would honestly skip that. I had one in a Les Paul and it sucked, but your experience might be different.

Beauty. What's the neck profile on that one and what year is it? Congrats.
