People worldwide simply don't like Americans in general. It's the arrogance, entitlement, and a century of fucking over every other country on earth.

I think some of it is related to that, but also people are often jealous of what they perceive as "having the good life" though there are plenty of people here who are struggling like everywhere else. People traveling internationally are kind of the 1 percent regardless of where they are from, and often act spoiled and entitled. Nobody likes tourists, even american tourists in america, LOL.

Personally, I was born into a lower middle class family. Not going to mention the careers my mom and dad had, but they are decedents from old school farmers in Nebraska that traveled here from Germany mostly - mixed with some native American Indian. All of my success and financial well being is from my own hard work - and the values and morals instilled in my at a young age. Hope that didn't come across as spoiled and entitled :ROFLMAO:

Your writing was great! Been to Rome and Colosseum, Barcelona and Athens which You mentioned and of course one needs to stay alert on what is going around You. 🙏

We were in Nice, France and trying to get back to the pier on time and our Uber driver was very sketchy. Every alarm light on his dash was on. He had a stick shift where 1st gear didn't work. Car continually bogged down. He complained that he needed to get the exhaust replaced. He kept making wrong turns and in the end - took us to the wrong pier and we almost missed the cruise ship. :(

That was one of the first times where I got my phone out and started taking pics, pulling up my map, texting with my wife, who was in the car, about why things didn't feel right. Hell, I was ready to dial "911" at a moment's notice.

We learned a lot on that stop :dunno:

I have switched to Uber almost 100% die to it feeling the safest. Apparently not everything goes well as Your example shows! 🙈🤣

Ride share is completely different over there (Europe). Official taxi is the way - but that is not always true either as there are some sketchy taxi drivers for sure.

I only Uber with EV drivers as they tend to be much more together.
 
With driver safety, it helps having someone who speaks the language of the country your visiting to talk to the driver. If that's not available, we've used Uber/Lyft in Europe & Mexico without too much issue.
