I've heard about the JB2 mod, seems like the perfect thing if you need to take the edge/honk off. I'm assuming it would work well in a Les Paul as well as a superstrat/trem-equipped guitar

Put that distortion I performed surgery on in the bridge, and at the sandman’s suggestion I put a yjm fury bridge in nightswan’s second position. Not sure if you call it middle or neck… anyway it’s a killer now. Sounds so much better. I just can’t gel with stock jb’s. So I now have two jb’s to experiment magnet swaps with… has anyone done this and what were your results? Recently had a jb trembucker with an a2 and it was awesome 👏
I like the Custom

Might be helpful to know what you miss or want to improve compared to the A5 in your JB. Might even do the trick to go with a thick A5 instead of the regular size that is in there now.

Seymour Duncan ashamedly presents the JBT Tallywacker. Full humbucker tone in a single coil sized package. For an extra charge he’ll P90 on you

Man you always tinkering lol
You will think I’m crazy but I think JB is perfect
I hate it. Always have. Completely irrational I know. If a guitar had one in it and I didn’t know it would probably be fine…. Maybe 🤔 I have only ever had one in superstrat guitar so… might kill in a Les Paul…

Wasn’t the Jake E Lee an A2 JB?

I have a JB trembucker in my charvel and have toyed with this idea for a while. Might have to take the plunge.

That's what they say.. I have a JB with an A2 and it kicks ass. Really like it. Like the Demartini RTM even more and it too, is an A2 as far as I know. It's the way.. Duncan 78? Isn't that also an A2? All roads lead to A2 unless you are rocking a PAF. I have one pickup with an A8 and it is pretty badass too

I always found the JB good in a pinch but the bottom can be a bit "spongy" and the top end "shrill".
Warren DeMartini always set the bass pot on his Marshalls to 0.00 when using the JB.

Let me know your results please. 🙏 I have two of them so I will definitely go with an a2, and an a8…. Curious about your results…
My inspiration took me a different way today, I ended up instead swapping a double-thick ceramic into a 7 string JB, into an all mahogany guitar with maple top. Really happy with it so far, super hot, tight enough for me, and it has a ‘hairy’ and aggressive character that works well for this guitar as it’s natural sound is big and round but laid back in the mids and not that aggressive. I could see it being all brash mids and treble in a more balanced or brighter guitar.

Also did a fret level on a pine tele I built years ago but don’t play much since the fretwork sucked… I put a Dimarzio PAF 7 in the bridge, which doesn’t sound much like a PAF to me… it’s more ‘low output modern voiced’. Very clear and dry but lacking depth/oomph, and kinda plinky and shrill on the top end. I changed the ceramic (!) magnet for alnico V (out of the JB-7) and that makes it sound much more natural in the top end, and kinda fillled out the mids a bit. Now I’m tempted to put a nickel silver baseplate on it as all Dimarzio 7 and 8 string pickups have pcb material baseplates and as I understand it makes a difference to the sound.

I will probably do my PAF magnet swapping this weekend.
