Wolfetone Marshallheads: Couple of questions

The problem I’ve had with Wolfetones squealing was always with the covered ones.

Good point. Mine are covered BTW. Wolfe recommends wax potting if you're using covers.

You can also remove the cover and place a piece of masking or painters tape over the slug coil. This helps to keep it from vibrating with higher volumes.

That shouldn’t need to happen though when buying a new pickup. It’s happened more than once when I bought pickups from him. It must have something to do with the way he’s installing the covers.

Blisterbucker, MarshallHead, Monkeybucker, or Timberwolfe possibly in my Mayo Duvelle next....hmmm. Was highly considering throwing a Lundgren M6 in there but Wolfe's pickups have been on my try list for a long time.

It sounds good on paper and he offers ceramic. I will use it for hard rock, thrash, & death metal, so want something with good push to hit the front hard but needs to not be too modern with too much compression. I like organic/open bright crunch, pronounced pick attack, growl, upper mid bite with good juice and dynamics.

It’s all there. Never tried one with ceramic though

I have a vague memory of non potted being more problematic with a cover for any humbucker, but to say that my memory on it is foggy, is like saying London gets a little misty sometimes.
Mine are uncovered.

I have a Timbrewolf (covered) in my pickup drawer I haven't used for ever. If you want to try it out let me know, I'll mail it to you if you're in the lower 48. If you love it, how about 75$, if not, just mail it back to me. It is vintage braid though, so wouldn't be able to coil split.

Appreciate it but I'd need uncovered direct mount. plus I'm still undecided on whether I'm going to try the M6 first.

Sup guys, im looking for a replacement for my Charvel's bridge pickup. Alder body, maple neck, 1h. It has a Custom 5 right now, which i dig but i need something not so over the top.

I know these are not wax potted and since the Charvel is my main live guitar im also wondering about that... could it be an issue?

I agree, you shouldn't have to do that on a new pickup. But it will fix the problem.

Man they sounded great in my Kauer. Had a really cool crunchy top end in that guitar.

I haven't hadn't any microphonic issues with my Wolfetones at moderate gain levels. My experience with most unpotted pickups is that distance between the guitar and amp is crucial

He does? Hmm, he must have changed his stance on that because when I purchased a set of MarshallHeads 2006-ish he pretty much refused to do it and told me he tightens the covers so tight, it is not necessary. And as I feared, they squealed and whistled like a stuck pig, even under low gain. Not a knock on Wolf, he is a great guy and talented winder. Just my own personal experience. If he offers this now as an option, I may just have to buy another set
