Sweetwater CEO Reacts To The Industry’s Decline

Last time my bass player were in there we saw Mitch Gallagher and flagged him down. We stood there and joked with him for a bit and then went off and tried out some gear. Their Gearfest is great but haven't done it in years.

Sweetwater doesn’t buy used gear. The gear exchange is just their version of Reverb for the public and it’s not very big yet, so I very much doubt the fees are floating the company 😂

I was told they get 7% of whatever you sell the rest they give you "SW credit" like in the old days of "wheel of fortune" where they made you spend the money you won on cheesy on-set pre-picked overpriced items.
So they basically get all of your money & and or value you of whatever you buy from them of course.
ah you think SW sells you items at wholesale prices ? Phuc-nah.
You're not "selling" anything. You're giving your shit away to them.
Party on Wayne.

Christ, actually read a source for fuck’s sake rather than “you heard”. Sweetwater will waive the 7% if you’re going for store credit. Otherwise you pay them the 7% and get the rest paid out out to you, the seller.

You can never have too many $875 VCR's.
You say its great i say it ain't who da fuck cares ?
SW is one of the most gimmicky outfits around and Mitch Gallager looks & talks like a creepy robot.

That is totally weak. I would say they can keep it, they obviously need it more than us.
A half dozen bit-o-honeys in every order would've kept my business 4 life but they wanted to be like one of those spendthrift neighbors on halloween handing out stacks of pennies wrapped in cellophane instead of doling out the goodies with a generous spirit. They can count their beans by themselves, alone, in a dark, flat place. Shitwater would be a better name for them now.

What happened to the Smarties, Double Bubble and Atomic Fireballs?

That bag looks like they found them at the bottom of Grand ma's bowl underneath old Scirocco keys.

Uh oh! Here come the villagers with their pitchforks and torches.

I complained about the candy, so they did a little better the next time.

A global pandemic happened. Everybody with an ounce of intelligence knew it was going to be temporary. So of course, queue up a bunch of MBA’s seeing a few quarters of rapid growth in hobby spending because there was nothing else to do, and so they assumed it “obviously” meant infinite rapid growth in music gear spending every quarter forever from now on! Better re-tool every gear company and hire five times their current staff to accommodate the new gold rush which will definitely never end!!!

Wait what do you mean the gear industry is immediately and predictably shrinking now that people are outside again? How could that be? Who could have possibly seen this coming?

My last SW order had zero candy in it. I’m done with them forever.

j/k - they’re awesome

Bad experience in mid 90s

Tried again in 2017

Since then I get discounts that are very fair with Jozy Franco

Gear exchange is actually very awesome and better then using PayPal without filming the packaging and using sweetwater as a buffer

Shipping after gear exchange gets cheaper freight and insurance.

I appreciate them now. Great experiences.

The largest growth segment during Covid was female purchasers, influenced by the Taylor Swift hysteria.

Many of them have concluded playing 12s on an acoustic is not as easy as it looks. And now that they are back to office and out dating again, they may not have the time to practice, or the desire to have short fingernails to fret with.

We purchased my wife a Taylor, for six months I sat with her and showed her how to play chords. Progress was slow, she thought she’d be playing more like I do. I tried to explain I’m 20,000+ hours into this. There is no short cut to experience.
