Opinions on Friedman 2x12/2×15 cab??

I had it. Worked well with butterslax head. I don't usually enjoy the g12h30 but it balanced well with the fullbacks. I really only used it with the butterslax head though which has a lot faster attack and a bit brighter sounding than my jj. I'd say it sounds good across all three channels of the slax.

Thanks! I guess this cab sounds great with my amps from your description.

I am stuck into cabs/speakers rabbit hole right now. Anyone tried this cab?? Seems like unique cab. Price is quite steep though.
Had one.

First it's huge and heavy af.

Second, not a fan of the stock speakers. The Anniversary G12H30 is high on my list of least favorite Celestions ever, and the Full-Back is not far behind. To me the cab sounded bloated, harsh, and obnoxiously loud af in an all the wrong frequencies stock. In fact if these are the cabs Bill was playing through, then I can see exactly why Brent said it was miserably uncomfortable standing on Bill's side of the stage at one point.

I replaced the two G12H30s with two early '90s Marshall Vintage speakers, and that helped a bit. But the lows were still too out of control and bloated. I toyed with the idea of replacing the two Full Backs with my two Coffee Can EV SRO15's, but realized how damn heavy that would be and said fuckit and sold it.

Tbt I got far better results pairing a single EV SRO15 in a 1x15 cab and running that with a 2x12 or 4x12. Eventually I'm gonna get a 2x15 cab built for them to run with a 4x12 on top.

Thanks for your opinion on this cab. I have ENGL XXL cab which is heavier than Friedman butterslax cab. So, size is not a problem. I searched some review of this cab and all of the reviewer said this cab is tight. It is surprising that you said out of control and bloated. Do you think this cab still sounding bloated with extremely tight amp??

I played it mostly with either a Hiwatt or a Reeves Custom 100 getting hit by either a Treble Booster, Soldano SLO Pedal, a Rat, a Catalinbread Katzenkonig, or some various fuzz pedal or a combination of the Treble Booster with a distortion or fuzz. Usually but not always into an attenuator too.

I also used it with a Dual Rectifier Tremoverb, and a Matamp GT150.

Although I have no experience with Hiwatt or Reeves stuff, I had tremoverb and tried Matamp GT120. Both are saggy amp without boost pedal IMO. Maybe butterslax cab work fine with me. Coz, my amps all tight side of amps.

The Hiwatts are incredibly tight and percussive, but not shrill or harsh unless you dial it in to be so. I'm not into fat and bloated.

The Matamp uses KT88's and tbt I am not one of those dudes who uses the big bass setting on the Matamp. I use the 3rd to the last setting the most because it has the best British midrange grind and cut, and I tend to use it as an edge of breakup pedal platform. I also max the presence on it. Trust me when I say when running my KMA Wurm 2 or SLO Pedal through it there is no sag to be found.

That said, the Hiwatt and Reeves are the two most immediate, articulate, punchy, and cutting amps I have ever played through.

If you really want tight and punishing tones that hit like a sledgehammer I recommend just pulling a pair of your V30's from the Engl cab, and popping in a pair of EVM12L's. Nothing hits like cast frame speakers, and they blend really well with V30's. I've done this one myself in an X pattern.

X. You get the punch and smooth clarity of the EV's with the midrange grind and treble chime of the V30's. It's a really good pairing, and neither speaker over-powers the other in volume. They blend into a nice whole.
Thanks!! I usually don't like all v30. This would be cool. Btw, have you tried EVM12l black label which is Zakk Wylde signature speakers?? If there are no significant differences, I will go to normal version.

No. The ones I had were from the early '80s. I sold them a while back because I prefer alnico EV SRO12's to EVM12L's.

To be fair I prefer alnico EV SRO12's over every other guitar speaker I've ever played through. I just wish they weren't so freaking heavy. I've got four split between two 4x12's. One pair with two Fane Medusas, and one pair with two Celestion G12H100's.

I put a Black Label in a Thiele and a Classic in another Thiele. They sound very similar but the low end/low mids on the Black Label is stronger.

Two videos that I found really helpful for Black Label vs Classic:

I'm gonna say that second video is doing some of those tones no favor by using an open back combo. With two of them in a 2x12, or paired with more 12L's or other speakers in a 4x12 they hit way harder.

Loving black label. Maybe quads in 412 cab would be too much??
Love it.

I wasn't sure the direction I wanted to go so I bought two Thieles, sold the C90s and tried both EVM12L at the same time.Tried them one after another, side by side, all over the place, etc. I had a hard time telling then apart unless I tried to record them on a cell phone. They're almost identical except the black label has more low end and low mids.

There is no such thing as too much!

I agree with you. At the time when I discovered that video there were very few comparisons out there so I was really happy. Definitely not perfect but it's decent.
