Hell Razor version 2.0 (also use pirate ship for shipping)

Did some tracking with the updated hell razor sounds pretty killer!

Funny story behind this (kind of). Sold the amp, and in transit it got damaged. Filed a claim with pirate ship, they covered everything QUICKLY, no in person inspection or anything. I will not use anyone else for labels anymore. Anyway, I sent the amp to Rick for repair, Rick asked if I wanted to update the amp while he was fixing it; he said the hell razor has had a few updates since the first revision (which is what mine was). Of course I said yes. His updates made the amp much better IMO. Anyway, here you go. Did a full mix, then some knob turning as I understand not everyone dials things the way I do.

Ya I have a 2.0. Fucking love it . It’s amazing , But I still love the MTL2 as well .
I thought you got yours in 2024? Rick said this update was new for this year. I was more so just calling that because it’s 2.0 to me 🤣

Incredible video dude. It might be the best I've heard you sound, especially with the way the cab is sounding. Killer playing, too.

I love my HR, got it earlier this year and Rick let me know it was an updated version as well. The video is a really good representation of what these amps sound like. The HR is easily in the top 3 high gain amps I've ever played, and it ain't #3. Most days it's not #2 either. It just seems to have the best elements of every high gain sound I've ever wanted.

I will say it's kinda funny that ever since I got one and heard you talk about how you thought the MTL was so clearly better than the HR, every now and then when I was playing it I'd think "damn, that guy has access to compare both of them and really thinks the MTL is head and shoulders better than this? I mean how much better is it possible for an amp to be?" lol. It makes a little more sense now that you say the HR rev 2 is an improvement that makes the two amps a lot more neck and neck.

Sounds really good dude, has the same wizard voicing I remember from when I had my MTL mk2

You’d be annoyed spending that kind of coin on an amp (HR v1) only to find out it then needs an update to sound better, I’d be annoyed anyway

Rick makes tweaks to the circuits of his amps all the time… just doesn’t really advertise as a new version unless there’s some new added feature to merit a mk2 designation. Even then it’s not always the case. I didn’t know my 2018 MC2 had the pull for the black cat mod until a year or so after I bought it and found it on accident

So whats up with the new hell razor ? Lower darker mids ? Or features wise ?
So like Matt said, Rick tweaks circuits all the time. I feel like it was more apparent on mine because it was the first iteration of the hell razor Rick put out. So those tweaks have compounded. There is now way less noise, and the gain knobs feeling a little more apparent what their purpose is. The eqs on the amp too, do a bit more what you want them to do… best way I can put it.

Yup i do find my MTL and Hybrid has higher noise floor and its way noiser with plugged into an LP with the old 50s wriring style ... anybody with an LP playing thru their MTL mk2 or Hybrid can have any verdict ?

Thanks man, I’ve really tried to get my micing and stuff down. Figuring out that the most accurate to what I’m hearing in the room for my sound is the 57/421 combo, just seems to work for me.

Yeah there was a lot more noise before, and the EQ seemed to not set in the midrange and low mids how I wanted it to before either. That’s why the MTL won for me purely, the gain was obviously no comparison… not even close. Truthfully now, the eq range is similar enough to what I do with my MTL, but the hell razor sounds a bit more angry there too in the mids (more MC esque maybe?). Hell razor wins straight in easy.

When boosted is where it gets a bit more complicated.

I’ll have to do a direct shootout with a boost into the MTL and straight in to the hell razor now. See which one I prefer, and maybe that helps a few guys out too in a buying decision… that’s really all I’ve been trying to do with this stuff.

Hah, you know, I hate to make it even more complicated but while you're trying stuff out, and you might think this is blasphemy, but try turning the HR's gain down and boosting with a pedal also. You can get some great alternative voicings out of the amp that way too.

I know the HR is already tight and gained out enough that most people probably wouldn't really do that but give it a shot. @RedB4Black a while back was saying he was getting some great sounds from his HR by backing off some gain and using the low input. There's a lot more to the amp than is immediately apparent is what I'm saying.

Oh yeah for sure. Several guys I’ve heard from like the low input boosted on wizards as their preferred sound.
