RESIDENT ROCK PROFESSOR
Is there a way to know who made this ?
I’m tube ignorant
I’m tube ignorant
I’m no expert but those plates scream Chinese to me for some reason
I’m guessing it’s a shuguang 12ax7 so the B means it’s a later generation of tube than A (but earlier than C)View attachment 414978View attachment 414978I bought a bag of these . These are defects right ? Since they have a B ?
Is this correct ?
No, just denotes a Chinese 12AX7B. The B doesn't mean defective. There are newer production Bs, but if you can get the military version 6N4 those will have a lower failure rate than the newer Bs. That one is an older 8th/9th gen, however. The newer ones are in red print. From what I've experienced anyway.View attachment 414978View attachment 414978I bought a bag of these . So these Bs I have are actually good ?Chinese, as stated ^^
Whether it's a square or round getter, that inside construction always denotes Chinese. I have Mesa, Rivera, and Peavey labelled as well as China A, Bs in my stash. Those are great and way better IMO to any new production pre tube.

Stick to shredding manChinese Intervention
Wait Chinese Democracy
I’m confused
Yes; they are good tubes and are the older 8th or 9th gen from the late 80s/early 90s. Most will have the square shiny getter up top; but I also have some with the round halo getter. They are nice sounding tubes and if they are still testing strong, will sound better than any newer production tube. You'd have to try them out in your amps if you don't have a tester but you'll know if they are going bad. No risk to your amp though, unlike a bad power tube that can cause issues. So these are decent ?
These look like 8th or 9th gen Shuguangs.
Thanks man . This helps a lot . You know you’re shit. Im def trying to pay attention now . I was like WAY off in my origional assessment lolYes; they are good tubes and are the older 8th or 9th gen from the late 80s/early 90s. The newer production Bs with the red print are the sketchy ones. I bought 6 a few yrs back and 2 were bad. But, the military 6N4 with the star on the tube are the really good newer production Chinese.
Yours are older though, and if they are like mine will keep on lasting for a long time.
Ya it isGood info
