Just be careful with the cabs. It’s easy to overdrive that 18”?, even if they claim power the same power rating. I used to run a mixed cab rig back in the 90s but it was a bi-amp rig. I liked it fine until I got my first 8x10.

Probably going to pick up another 15" cab (rated @400w) the 4x10 is rated @ 1200

Mostly matters to live sound guys ( of which I am/was) but my main beef with mixed rigs is comb filtering, uneven dispersion, phase cancellations and the ease of which it can turn into mud.

As a bass player and a SE it just seemed like the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. It’s a lot of work to get them to sound good in a live mix. Again, this won’t matter much to the punters, just anal fuckers like me. Back when I bought that rig I didn’t know shit about it and loved that thing. Eventually I started smoking drivers and said fuck it and started buying Ampeg 810s. Which to this day is my favorite cab. Especially if your band is a loud rock band.

I'm actually a recording engineer and fully understand what you're saying. I would never run a 15 and 4-10's out of the same head. one or the other. I have additional HIWATT heads for bi-amping if need be, by clients (never my choice) strangely though, HIWATT does offer a 410x15 cab. I however prefer separate cabs for the studio.

Just glorious. Only amp I have right now is a GK800RB and a GK 4x10 but I also have an Ampeg tube preamp that sounds great direct. I guess like guitar amps, I feel bass amps were pretty much perfected decades ago. All we get now is portability but the best tones were created long ago.

There used to be a lot of that. I chalk it up to manufacturers selling people what they want even when what they want isn’t what they really need.

Then again people told me I couldn’t close mic a massive drum kit (14 mics) on a stage in small- medium sized clubs, but I did. And it fucking sounded great.

Absolutely. Since it’s real hard to get my hands on a Blue Line my favorite amp is the SVT II non pro. Mine is from ‘89.

My problem is, even if I found a blue line, I wouldn’t be able to carry it anywhere. Not even a V4, if I wanted to. Now that I have several discs made of plastic in my neck, those days are over.

I don’t gig anymore, but if I did I would still use the big iron and the 810. But I don’t have back or neck problems. Sorry to hear you do.
