Guitar shapes you thought would really take off... but didn't.

I knew a luthier up in MN who was making modular guitars like that in the 90's. MEG was the brand, "modular electric guitar". He had a few different bodies you could buy and I wanna say there was a multi pin connector that hooked pickups into the controls. It never took off. Seems like a solution looking for a problem more than anything.

modular is tough if it's proprietary.

at the very least, something like guitar fetish' kwikplug system would be great if other pickup makers supported it or something similar - it let's you unplug/plug in different pickups they offer without soldering. I'd have many more pickups, in many different guitars, if I didn't have to run wires and solder each time. Seems like a simple solution, and I'd buy more pickups than I do.

I can solder if I have to, but I'd rather do other things. There are some guitars that I just live with their stock pickups (Looking at Jackson X series Warriors) because I can't be bothered with replacing them vs a < 5-minute unplug old, plun-in new process.

ES-335? Just get one vs waiting for a PRS copy. Then again, why not a Byrdland or L5? :D

The Hondo Death Dagger should be more popular.

Got me a Hondo H-1 Death Dagger - guitar post - Imgur

That was my very first guitar. I always knew it as a fish tail though. That point is long, and being a 15ish year old with a younger brother who liked to sit in front of the TV to play video games... I hit him in the head with the wing a few times.

For BC Rich, I really like the Stealth; I have the Schuldiner sig from the first run back in 2008 IIRC.

The only other BC Rich shape I like is the beast, I had one for awhile, hardtail.

I love the Beast. I have a custom shop I got used. Its so big and unwieldy, sitting down playing it it sucks. Standing with it sucks. But its a damn nice axe. Its got Emg's now

Not mass produced, made by a guy in Yuma, AZ
Probably the most comfortable guitar I have ever played...

This one was a joint project I did with him

Same guy that built this one for Kane Roberts

Relish Guitars is another modular guitar design that didn't take off. Those were neat. They had a pickup mounting system that let you change pickups on the fly. GC had a Trinity that came with P90s and Humbuckers in mounts ready to go for like $400. I should have got it right then and there, but I passed on it.
