Tremoverb vs Line 6 Rectifier model - Video playthrough

Dude that sounds sick.. just a question - what pickups are you running in that PRS? Also.. how high do you set them? I've got a custom 22 with 57/08 and struggle a bit cause.. they are lower output but I somehow prefer them a bit lower...around 4/64 on treble side and 5/64 on bass side more or less..

I think preamp modeling is pretty much “there”, as is cab modeling when recording to a DAW. Playing the whole chain (preamp, power amp, cab) in the room is still a problem, which is why your clip sounds so kickass: it’s going into the recto power amp and cab.

Modelers with the cab turned off and ran through an amps loop into a real cab kick serious ass, just like your clip…

Thank you!

The PRS is an older McCarty with original pickups. I struggled with them too.. I always find PRS pickups to be almost “plinky” sounding, too clear and brittle. Almost microphonic. I love the coil split sounds but I always fight with full humbucker tones.

I was about to put an old Gibson or motor city pickup in the bridge position but for some reason I decided to clip the cap connecting the tone control and I don’t know why but it sounds much better now. So much so that I may leave it alone, for now at least.

Before I did that I lowered mine to around the same height as yours and that helped a bit. These McCarty's seem hot for low output pickups.

Thanks! Yeah, I agree. Sometimes I just play the POD into a Fryette Powerstation and cab and it sounds unbelievably and consistently good. For the price, that thing is great. Basically a small Helix. Most of the preamp models are very accurate.

Did you feel any difference in "push" in the room?

A while back I had a Helix into a Mesa D180 power amp and it was pretty good, but still (despite the Coliseum power section) didn't move air like a full amp. That said, into a recording you'd never know (with the right knob tweaking)

Awesome video! They sound very similar when using preamp only to amp's fx return. Sounded great.

That's how I was set up and I did feel that it had most of the "push". Maybe not 100% but that tube power section doing its thing gave it most of the feel of the amp. Biggest difference I notice with mine is that amp is a bit rounder and looser, while the model is just a touch tighter, brighter and more metallic/clangy, but it's subtle. And I could dial my Tremoverb a bit brighter but it gets bright in an unpleasant way, whereas the L6 model just gets clearer.

My other surprise was how damn good the Tremoverb's loop works. I had another rectifier with the parallel loop and it was unusable. I'm thinking a previous owner may have modded the loop to serial on this one.
