I'd rather not have to pay higher taxes/duties/tariffs in the first place. And then I'd rather get a $2K tax credit that carries over and that I can apply to any filing I want over a $2K check that will then count as income the government will just tax all over again.

That said, assuming this check is real (it's not), I'd use it to reimburse myself for the duties I've already paid on gear. I've got a guitar in customs right now, waiting to clear. Haven't gotten the tariff bill yet, but will most likely be 15%...

If I qualified (I don’t) and I received a cheque that existed (they don’t), I’d donate every penny of it to dog rescues for a tax write off. As said before I’d rather just have a taxable income offset so that it couldn’t be taxed.

Everyone should qualify because every one paid the tariffs. As the libertarians said the tariffs were basically just an income tax. Since we already paid it Id rather it go toward the deficit although it's a drop in the bucket. This just seems like buying votes for the future as the economy starts to cave
