If you were forced to hang out with a sellout, who would you pick? Now the trick is, you can't just pick the one you want to beat to a pulp. You have to pretend that you are actually going to have to suffer their presence

Alan, because he makes no bones about what he does, can take a joke, displays southern hospitality and is probably open to first cousin marriage. Kyle just seems like an uptight, two faced dickwad.

What everyone's issue with Kyle ?
It is hard to speak for everyone.

I think most of us liked him. He seemed genuine and was pretty cool. Then he sold out hard and started making clickbait videos and saying things like, "my friends at Gibson"

It no longer seemed genuine. Then we called him out and he got kind of butthurt..it was disappointing.

I’d choose Kyle. Geargasms is in DE. Shit rotten state. Don’t ever go there.

Not only that; directly after doing some contradictionary videos (first: 'y'all wrong for using high gain pickups' and literally the next video he does is 'I'm testing this IIC+ RI with 7 different guitars, 4 of which have very high output pickusp') and being called out on that on this forum, he proceeds with a bunch of videos basically whining about 'the hate towards Youtubers' and how hard it is to live the YT shill-life, even though he's constantly trying to act all cool and unphased here about him living rent-free in our heads.
It's either this or that, buddy. Not both. :cautious:

So yeah, my pick's on Alan.
Funnily enough his schtick about 'celebrate mediocrity' reminds me of a story that almost got an ex-co-worker of mine in trouble years ago, when we were both working for a US-based company. We have a saying here, that basically says "Just behave/act normal, that's crazy enough already" (implying to not stick out your head above the mowing field, but also be an abiding, church-loving citizen that doesn't act out...), which my co-worker translated slightly different to our American bosses... He said "Just be mediocre, that's crazy enough".
As you can imagine, they took it up with our general manager, rather irritated and threatening to get him fired, because he apparently 'wasn't firing on all cylinders and 'excelling', blah blah, corporate awesomeness, yadda-yadda..." Oh the joys of culture clashes. :jerkit: \:D/

You can’t tell me you’re not looking to get triggered by something after writing that post.

I’m on my lunch break and spent 5 minutes skimming that pickup video, literally the only thing he’s saying (I have to assume you didn’t watch it) is “Sometimes high output pickups don’t work like you expect them to with high gain amps” and that’s it. He figured out how to stretch that into a 17 minute video. He never said he was never using them again or that anyone else couldn’t be using them, just that sometimes they over compress when being used with a high gain amp and might not deliver what you expect. Which is true. And I’d imagine the overwhelming majority of his viewers are people younger than him, with less experience.

And that makes him a dumbass for using them in another video? What part of your brain said “It’s logical to call him out over this”? I’m genuinely curious. “Hey Kyle, you said in one video that high output pickups MIGHT over-compress a high gain amp, so what the fuck were you doing using high output pickups with the IIC+ even though you never said anything about not using them again?? HUH?? ANSWER THAT BITCH!!!”

And I sure hope all you tossing that sell-out term around are doing what you love for a living and not a single bit of your job is unappealing, because if Kyle’s a sell-out for playing and talking about gear all day, what’s that make for those of us who don’t do something with music for a living? Personally, I sold out the day I stopped pursuing a career in music and got a job in the trades because I allowed money to get between myself and my dream job. Fortunately, I’m a fuck of a lot happier and own most of the gear I wanted because of that job, but I’d still prefer to actually play the gear for a living.

This is no different than the tan pants crew at TGP shitting on Rhett Shull whenever he makes a video, it equally screams of dudes in their 50’s/60’s who aren’t happy with the way life turned out, being jealous of someone younger than them who figured out how to earn a living doing what they love. That’s 2 youtubers I’ve subscribed to in the last 2 weeks just because they’ve triggered people over absolutely nothing. I tend to be more of a ‘high tides raises all ships’ type.

1) If you weren't involved in the original debate, don't come here all high and mighty FULL of assumptions. Because I choose my wording carefully back then and I'm still doing it now.
2) I never called Kyle names FWIW, I never suggested he was a dumbass.
3) Not triggered at all, but I have a strong BS meter.
4) My original reason for SUGGESTING and asking him directly (if) he was veering into sell-out territory, was the click-baity title of that video "Y'all using the wrong pickups for metal". Oh do we now? All my guitars are loaded with Invaders, EMG81's and X2N's huh?.... Exactly. :jerkit:
5) I actually told Kyle on numerous occasions I *used* to enjoy his low-brow content, since he didn't seem the click-baity Glenn F type, or any of those guys where you can almost pinpoint between which videos they effectively sold their soul. But I also said that I didn't care for the direction he was going.

And instead of trying to flame me here when you know maybe 0.2% of the facts, you may wanna turn your attention to folks that can't stand a constructive bit of push-back, only want yes-men around them in their comments (Reza anyone?) and are diluting the whole thing that got them in that position in the first place.
Just like you, I also choose a different career than one as a fulltime professional musician/recording engineer, even with a Bachelor of Music degree in hand...because I outright feared that making ends meet with music (and possibly needing to 'whore yourself out' musically for that) would diminish my love for it. So I went the electronics/engineering path (which I also was in college for) and don't mind working for a boss and not having to deal with the risk of running my own show.

I asked Kyle a valid question, he shrugged it off, went on his 'rent-free' diatribe and the rest is history. Ya may wanna look it up on your next 5 lunch breaks. :sneaky:
