And one of my favorite Black Sabbath tunes besides the Mob Rules.........What a great fookin guitar amp tone.....I believe these were Suhr modded Marshall's and maybe a Cameron Ocean.....from what I remember?????? Was he using the Suhr Aldrich pickup in this video??

Dio's performance is so much more important than the guitar sound.
The studio stuff he was on was super muffled imo

His tone & playing on “Killing The Dragon” is sooooo awesome. I believe for that tour he had like 3 or 4 modded Marshall’s in his rack, but used the Suhr/Golub modded Marshall as his main tone.

He definitely had a Cameron modded Marshall in the rack and I think maybe a Roccaforte modded one too.

That was a big discussion back then!

When I was over in Harmony Central in the 2004 to 2007 timeframe, a buddy I met on the forum and then in person, had a Cameron modded Aldrich Marshall and sounded sick! It captured that tone in that performance and I was on a Cameron hunt after that for years.

I owned a Marshall 1959RI modded by Mark around that same time. I was soooo stoked to get it, but it had waaaaay too much gain for me. It was thin with the gain knob low. I just couldn’t make it work. I was bummed. Wish I didn’t sell it, though!

He worked for them for a minute and designed an amp they were really excited to unveil to the public and then it all went south in a hurry.

This sounds fuller partly to a lower tuning. Sounds like it might be a whole step down.

i think the bass is the culprit too listening back now, its way bright and scooped in the first one and lacking that sabbath weight. i know ive been guilty of scooping and brightening up my bass too much and it leaves the same hole in the low mids im hearing, especially slower songs like that one.

Looks like the DSL's are not turned on in the Live NYC 2002 video though.

As you can see in the backstage pic the amp head rig is sitting right behind the DSL full stacks.

I do admit the Live in London 2005 video the DSL's are on and probably were used for that show and the tone was very good as well.

Geezer is a much more interesting bass player than the other guy the NYC vid and Rudy Sarzo in the Live In London vid IMHO. I put Geezer in the John Paul Jones category.
