And one of my favorite Black Sabbath tunes besides the Mob Rules.........What a great fookin guitar amp tone.....I believe these were Suhr modded Marshall's and maybe a Cameron Ocean.....from what I remember?????? Was he using the Suhr Aldrich pickup in this video??

Dio's performance is so much more important than the guitar sound.
The studio stuff he was on was super muffled imo

Jcm 2000's ?

His tone & playing on “Killing The Dragon” is sooooo awesome. I believe for that tour he had like 3 or 4 modded Marshall’s in his rack, but used the Suhr/Golub modded Marshall as his main tone.

He definitely had a Cameron modded Marshall in the rack and I think maybe a Roccaforte modded one too.

That was a big discussion back then!

He had a Cameron modded Standel as well as the modded Marshalls.

When I was over in Harmony Central in the 2004 to 2007 timeframe, a buddy I met on the forum and then in person, had a Cameron modded Aldrich Marshall and sounded sick! It captured that tone in that performance and I was on a Cameron hunt after that for years.

I owned a Marshall 1959RI modded by Mark around that same time. I was soooo stoked to get it, but it had waaaaay too much gain for me. It was thin with the gain knob low. I just couldn’t make it work. I was bummed. Wish I didn’t sell it, though!

That’s the pic! I totally forgot about the Standel. I think Cameron worked for Standel at some point.
He worked for them for a minute and designed an amp they were really excited to unveil to the public and then it all went south in a hurry.

sounds great, but i think its missing some low mids, this one though sounds a little fuller to me with this different les paul

This sounds fuller partly to a lower tuning. Sounds like it might be a whole step down.

i think the bass is the culprit too listening back now, its way bright and scooped in the first one and lacking that sabbath weight. i know ive been guilty of scooping and brightening up my bass too much and it leaves the same hole in the low mids im hearing, especially slower songs like that one.

Jcm2000 dsl's
Looks like the DSL's are not turned on in the Live NYC 2002 video though.

As you can see in the backstage pic the amp head rig is sitting right behind the DSL full stacks.

I do admit the Live in London 2005 video the DSL's are on and probably were used for that show and the tone was very good as well.

Geezer is a much more interesting bass player than the other guy the NYC vid and Rudy Sarzo in the Live In London vid IMHO. I put Geezer in the John Paul Jones category.

Listening to a new live Dead Daisies album.I guess he’s using his Ruby Blackstar amps.
Sounds great to me.

There is a pretty long in debt interview with Doug from 2002 or 2003 I think. There he mentioned what gear did he used for the recording of the album. Doug have on JMP from 1978-79 which is moded from John Suhr which was used for the rhythm tracks because of the nice and very specific low end and he owns one SLP which is moded from Mark Cameron which was used for the lead stuff and solos. If you check the instagram profile of Doug you can actually see them both side by side. They bought sound awesome. However I don’t think that Doug really uses them live just because he loves them too much and as we all know anything can happens on the road. He mentioned not once that the transformer of the JMP kept blowing off. A big part of the sound of Doug is in his hands also even if he plays thru stock JCM800 he sounds like Doug Aldrich 😄. As far as the pickups goes of this era he didn’t had the signature yet, he had a LP with alnico II, so vintage style not high output like his signature SUHR. He never mentioned to my knowledge anything about the pickups of the strat that he plays on that tour and short after that retired because he joined Whitesnake and there he used LP’s. You can also hear the two amps on Good to be bad album. It’s a shame that the original mix of the album was never released on Spotify I think because there was some drama with the record company or the label so now you can hear only the remixed version which sounds nothing like the original 😄. I have the original album and the sound of the guitars was thick and smashing, I have never heard anything like it before 😬. Anyway if you dig in youtube you’ll probably find the original album. The sound of those Marshall’s can be also heard on the Revolution Saints albums. It’s just unmistakable.
