What’s everybody’s favorite death metal band?

Every time I see a list of bands as a response posted in this thread, I think, "Yeah, but which one is your favorite?"

The current Deicide crew is sounding simply amazing these days.

Co-singed. Since they hired Taylor Nordberg, they have just been kicking ass again and I'm a huge die-hard Hoffman brothers'-era fan. When they went out and toured doing the entire Legion album, that was strong as fuck.

Bolt Fucking Thrower! I was 14 years old when "Mercenary" came out. I remember going to the local Music shop to get the CD and when I played it I was floored! I am mainly into 80s and early 90s Thrash Death bands but no other band makes me bang my head as hard as BT
I mean listen to this...

Only old classics for me, nothing modern or current here, I'm a genX/boomer !

Death, Pestilence, Atheist, Cynic for technical Death-Metal
Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Monstrosity, Six Feet Under for classic floridian sound
Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Cancer for brits
Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Carbonized, Dark Tranquility, Entombed, Dismember for swedes
Agressor, Massacra, Loudblast, Mercyless, Misanthrope, Scarve, Gojira for France (yeah!)

Angelcorpse! Gene Palubicki, one of the hardest working mofos in Death Metal! Not sure if you've heard one of his newer bands, Hexorcist, but if you dig Angelcorpse you'll probably dig them. Evil Reaping Death is their full length but they did a split in 2023 with Morbid Messiah that is pretty sick, too.
Love Angelcorpse. Thx, will check out 🤘

Is it me, or Decrepit Birth never gets mentioned? @DanTravis62 whatcha think?

Ofc Death is out of touch for me 🤘🏻

I've only gotten into death metal in the last year or two, but so far some of my favorites, roughly in order:

Suffocation
Ulcerate
Immolation
Death
Cryptopsy
Dismember
Bolt Thrower
Gorguts
Gatecreeper (just recently saw them live opening for Deafheaven, they definitely have more of a mainstream appeal that felt like a mashup of 90s Swedish melodeath and metalcore)

It's because they're californians and weren't part of a famous scene, I think

alex bent is a great drummer for sure
