Is the hype over? Not as long as................

Have had them all but D. I've not played the new reissue, but from some of the clips it has me thinking it could be my favorite of them all. Just don't really want to spend $3600 when my Rev G and an 808 is doing fine.I just got one. I have owned every revision mesa rectifier but a E. This one is really good. Really tight without a boost. Looks great. The new prices are just too much. I’ll probably list it soon just because I have 5 rectifiers but it’s a great amp. My favorite new mesa product in years. Just too much money new.
Right. They're all flavors of the same recipe. I have a triple g right now and it still brings the goods. I think the new one is the best one out of the box. It might be the best one. I definitely am always a sucker for a chrome chassis. Honestly if I didn't have a chrome triple f coming I would not list the 90s reissue. The only reason I am doing the chrome triple f is for the collector status. The 90s one is my favorite out of the box--easily the tightest without sacrificing the rectifier tone.Have had them all but D. Honestly, I still don’t see it. Personal to me, I know but I’ll never see a 2 channel G, no matter how pretty, as worth more than about $1200. Even that is higher than I would go but trying to recognize it’s been a minute since they were around $800, all day long.I feel like a re-issue recto in 2-3 years used is gonna be a solid buy
The market will sort out, as it has. My reasoning is simply based on the option of having a decent sounding Recto (RI) without the possibility of having to send it for service being an appealing option for someone wanting a decent sounding Recto used. I could be that guy for $1300 down the road.Honestly, I still don’t see it. Personal to me, I know but I’ll never see a 2 channel G, no matter how pretty, as worth more than about $1200. I was tripping over these growing up for less than 900 bucks. But that’s as also how it was with JCM 800s. The market will correct on used gear but I don’t think it’ll ever get that low again.Honestly, I still don’t see it. Yeah. I played one and it is a great ampI haven’t tried the IIC+ reissue, but will just say I’ve had the 90’s Recto Reissue for a little over 3 months now and it’s one of my favorite Mesa’s and easily to me the best amp they’ve made in over 30 years now and actually not processed sounding or feeling like the Mark 7 or really actually their other most recent pre-Gibson models
Ya I usually use pushed presence as well, but I prefer harmonics to mid gain. Seems a little more open sounding that way.Well, then you need one. I've never played an actual C+, so I have nothing to compare my IV C+ mode to.
You are correct about the settings. I actually don't like C+ mode on my Mark IV as much as I like the IV mode. I don't pull the presence and I use mid-gain instead of harmonics.
We're already in the middle of a market correction. Used prices have come down to around early-Covid levels, give or take. But if you're holding out for $500 Plexis or $800 Rectos, you’re probably in for a long wait. Between inflation, higher retail pricing, and sustained demand, those rock-bottom deals just aren't coming back.I was tripping over these growing up for less than 900 bucks. I've seen them sit, and sit, and sit on the GC used site for years. I can go there almost every week and find one for sale. I'm sure it's a killer amp but no, I don't think they are even in the same stratosphere as an F or earlier Recto. It does seems like you never see the Tremoverbs for sale. Never played one, but there must be somethin special about the tone.
The reissue isn't a G. It's more like a really great F, or even earlier revision. They can say all they want about what revision it's 'supposed' to be, but when people tell me it's so good they may list their F and earlier Rectos, that ain't no G Recto. Haha.Honestly, I still don’t see it. Personal to me, I know but I’ll never see a 2 channel G, no matter how pretty, as worth more than about $1200. Couldn’t agree more. I had a revision G and it sucked moose dick. Tubby, flubby and loose. The reissue isn't a G. It's more like a really great F, or even earlier revision. I've had 2 G Triples, and 2 G Duals...all 4 were very early 4-5k serial attached power cords etc. The F Triples, and C Dual absolutely destroy those Gs.
If the reissue Recto is truly a G in circuit, then there's something else going on with it, for guys to give it such an amazing review. Because no G is anywhere near the F or C, tone wise.
Whatever it is technically, it has aspects of it that reminds of the F, D and C’s I’ve had in different ways (haven’t tried a stock G or E). The Green ch is all F. The Orange is to me like a tighter/less boomy, more cutting F (probably where I get some C resemblance) with some part of the low mid growl reminding me of the D. The Red ch who caresThe reissue isn't a G. It's more like a really great F, or even earlier revision. I'm intrigued by the Recto Ri and am interested in one; but I'm betting a Triple will be coming and that will be the one I try. Unless the first few reviews say it sucks compared to the Dual Ri.Whatever it is technically, it has aspects of it that reminds of the F, D and C’s I’ve had in different ways (haven’t tried a stock G or E). I think guys don’t wanna like it and find the big logo and other cosmetics details off putting, but in a blind folded test I bet many would choose the reissue as one of their favorite recto versions. At least I would
What “other boutique” high gain amps do you think are better? Any that I’ve liked as much or more are way more expensive. I would agree though about getting one used for those prices. This blows away to me the multi-watt or earlier 3 channel version (at least in tone/feel quality, not features of course). I get the reasons guys don’t like these (who haven’t actually tried them), but actually play the amp and it might change their perspective unless one is just not a recto guy. Then this still won’t be the answer and I get thatunfortunately for the price it is up there with other botique amps (who are superior imo)… I would probably go another route if I was to pay retail.. I have seen 3 reissues for sale within the past 2 months between $2500-$2800… if you are patient they will be an amazing buy in the next couple years.. I also recommend hanging onto your multiwatt if you have one.. as those prices are liable to jump down the line.. it was the latest revision we saw, & who knows if Gibson will take the initiative to innovate down the line. Waiting for the term-o-verb relaunch next![]()
Yeah I hope it comes out. I heard a rumor it might not since the sales of these weren’t great. It wouldn’t surprise me either way how the reviews go for a triple. Maybe it’s just a happy accident this one came out well lol as it doesn’t really sound to me exactly like an F, but I like it a lot more lolI'm intrigued by the Recto Ri and am interested in one; but I'm betting a Triple will be coming and that will be the one I try.
