Works great for live use for the reasons mentioned above. I do notice it kills just a bit of presence in my rig, but it’s WAY worth it to avoid a guitar in a separate tuning.
I watched the whole thing- fascinating.
All of those studio guys (Lukather, Huff, Carlton, etc.) have one thing in common- taste.
Play for the song, not your ego.
I recently got a Chase Tone Secret Pre, and it's my always-on pedal now.
It's the preamp circuit of an old Echoplex, and it makes everything sound bigger/ better. I have it set to add just a bit of boost (maybe a db or two) for a little compression.
It's killer into my QuickRod.
So, an update...I took it to rehearsal last night.
Basic rig was the SSC, my Splawn QuickRod, and an EVH 2x12 with a Scumback M75/ BM75 mix. Normally in 1st gear with either OD2 or an Elements OD kicked on for more gain.
For context we cover classic rock, 80's, hair bands, dance, modern...

Just arrived yesterday courtesy of a TGP member.
What a guitar!
Very balanced sounding overall with killer sustain. Fit and finish are impeccable. The custom wound Bareknuckles are clear, warm, and super articulate. Perfect match for the guitar- for once I'm not gonna change anything except...
I swapped a Jalen Fair Warning into my Wolfgang Special and could not be happier. While it's hot based on the specs (15.5k) it doesn't act like a hot pickup. The mismatched coils and roughcast A5 mag really lean it more towards a vintage vibe.
It's a really clear, articulate pickup with nice...
